I wonder if "tree" is about a decision tree between choices of good and evil. A node of evil is evil fruit. Eating that fruit would be choosing it and doing it.

death is losing righteousness. You fall out of Grace of God. The Tree of Knowledge is death. satan hides The Way to become righteous again. The good and evil in the tree is describing the loss of righteousness, but still having low level good spirit in you.
