The problem with Phil. 2:6, 7 (part 3)

I guess we could do as Aspen and I have done in 'Who is God.' Or we could go to a group which is set up for one-to-one debates. I would be glad to set up either one, but I'd like some assurance that we stick to one scripture at a time and answer by clearly addressing that scripture alone until...

Aspen and Tigger 2 discuss 'who is God?'

Well you will have to show me the scriptures (one at a time, taking turns) which show Jesus revealed as Almighty God and the HS revealed as the Almighty God. It was not accepted by the Church until the 4th century (and then with much dissent and furor). If it had been clearly revealed in...

Aspen and Tigger 2 discuss 'who is God?'

"I have not prooftexted." I didn't ask that. I asked if you only accept as 'prooftexts' those scriptures which Trinitarians use. You seem to exclude John 17:3 as a prooftext (and probably every other scripture I cite to show a single person God: YHWH the Father). However, you have cited John...

Aspen and Tigger 2 discuss 'who is God?'

Do you mean that only scriptures used by Trinitarians as 'proof' are prooftexts? We are not discussing nature, we are discussing 'persons' who are God (see the title above), and there are more of them than this one. How does "only" or "alone" in John 17:3 not limit God to one person? As for...

Aspen and Tigger 2 discuss 'who is God?'

This is what I was afraid would happen. The scripture in question (which we were to discuss until we both agree to go on to another scripture telling who is God) tells us that the Father is God alone, and that Jesus was sent by Him. I don't see the third 'person' who is also supposed to be the...

Aspen and Tigger 2 discuss 'who is God?'

??? How important does this scripture say it is to know the Father, who is the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ? John 17:1, 3 - "Father.... This is eternal life: to know thee who alone art truly God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent" - NEB. Probably more important than, say...

Aspen and Tigger 2 discuss 'who is God?'

Aspen: "I have the standard, orthodoxy Christian interpretation; Jesus, in his humble state of being, is relating to God the Father from the standpoint of a child; which as children of God, we are called to do." I see nothing explaining "Father is God alone". I didn't know there was a...

Aspen and Tigger 2 discuss 'who is God?'

I'm sorry, Aspen, but I really do not see how your post answers the question of how John 17:3 is not saying the Father alone is the only true God. Can you put it in simple everyday language for a simple man? We're supposed to be, at least, 'sharing ideas.' If I honestly don't understand...

Hi, Aspen. I'll check back around noon tomorrow. Stay warm.

Aspen and Tigger 2 discuss 'who is God?'

I'm sorry, maybe it's my aging brain, but I still don't understand how your reply explains that the Father is not the ONLY true God. This scripture says to me that only the Father is God. Not Jesus, not the HS, but only the Father. John 17:1, 3 - "Father.... This is eternal life: to know thee...

Aspen and Tigger 2 discuss 'who is God?'

I had hoped that we would discuss the scripture presented until we both decided to move on to the next one. Do you have an interpretation for John 17:3 itself that would nullify the meaning that the Father alone is the true God?

Aspen and Tigger 2 discuss 'who is God?'

Sorry about that. With my memory I'll probably make the same mistake again.:) I'm pretty worn out for this day, but I'll leave you with the old standard - John 17:1, 3, "Father.... This is eternal life: to know thee who alone art truly God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent" - NEB. I'll be...

Aspen and Tigger 2 discuss 'who is God?'

We have agreed to examine a verse until we are both ready to go to another. We'll use the Bible of our Choice, but will use a good NT text to back it up. If two scriptures are necessary to complete a single idea (John 8:58/Ex. 3:14?) it will be allowed. Aspen may start if he wishes.

    Witnessing to a Jehovah Witness

I am 78 now. Would you like me to start a new thread here? Or try a one-to-one discussion on another board?

    Witnessing to a Jehovah Witness

If a Trinitarian claims to have been baptized in water, and then subsequently comes to the scriptural knowledge of Jesus - should that person be baptized in water a second time? Definitely.

    Witnessing to a Jehovah Witness

I can be as patient as my advancing age will allow. In the early seventies I began studying with JW's. After a year I was confronted with a Dr. Walter Martin tape by a co-worker. I was shocked. From then on, for the next ten years, I conducted my own private study concerning the trinity. I...

    Witnessing to a Jehovah Witness

I am not interested in that either. I would accept we start with Bible quotes as backed up by the major modern NT Greek texts (W&H; Nestle-Aland; UBS). In other words, no single translation is to be considered infallible. I would prefer to examine only one statement at a time, unless two are...

    Witnessing to a Jehovah Witness

I agree. I suggest we discuss only scriptural evidence for who is God. I believe it would quickly get out of hand unless we agree to discuss only one (or two if necessary) verses or statements at a time. And then continue to another only when we both agree to do so. If there is too much...
