    “Dead to Sin”

Hi EB! I think the subject of being born with the sin nature is so supported by Scripture that it's too obvious to debate using Scripture.

    “Dead to Sin”

Amen, obedience is always one the most significant issues, but more significantly is what causes us to be obedient (God - Phil 2:13). I think it's noteworthy to mention that man's accountability for sin isn't sinning but in the possessing the sin nature, for the sinning merely manifests the...

    “Dead to Sin”

Appreciate your reply! That's sound's okay to me, but I'm always thinking and studying on all the issues involved so I can continue to receive deeper understanding, for greater preparation to be used.

    “Dead to Sin”

I agree with a lot here, except it's not a change in nature but an addition of a new nature, and the old man is the same because we know that it cannot be subjected to God (Rom 8:7).

    “Dead to Sin”

This is a good passage applicable to this subject (Rom 5:13), and what else can one see it consodering the way it reads; but the sense of it does not say there was no law, just an implication that if there were no law. But there has always been law of God known to man, shown in the following...

    “Dead to Sin”

Looks good Brother! Want to note that it's referring to the guilty conscience concerning sin reviving because regardless, all were dead in sin, conscience or not.

    “Dead to Sin”

Hi Mark! "When the commandment came" refers to his recent enlightenment of the Spirit's teaching, in that he didn't before realize that the mere informing of the Law to man of God's will incurred accountability.

    “Dead to Sin”

Not sure what you mean here, but verse 9, "alive without the law" means "he did not know that he "was dead in trespasses and sins," Ephesians 2:1, a truth he afterwards was acquainted with" (J Gill - Romans 7 Bible Commentary - John Gill’s Exposition of the Bible). The Law showed him his sinful...

    “Dead to Sin”

Hi CL, and appreciate your input! I know there is a difference of interpretation between believers about this subject. Myself, I believe Paul was writing in the present tense of the time of this writing, and that he was referring to his state as one reborn. He repeatedly made statements and...

    “Dead to Sin”

Hi and thanks for your input! Amen, we are not in the old man (Rom 8:9) but it is in us (Rom 7:17, 20), and this is what manifests God's glory and power in His Son and Spirit; that believers can live Christian lives in spite of the presence of the sin nature--the old man--from which God teaches...

    “Dead to Sin”

The only way to be free from sin is to become dead to it, “For he that is dead is freed from sin” (Rom 6:7). What is involved being free from sin? Scripture, and the testimony of the believer’s walk, clearly show it doesn’t involve the eradication of sin, nor its source—“the old man,” otherwise...

    Resurrection Source

If we have genuinely received Christ, there will be that constant “desire” to “do” the “pleasure” of God (Phl 2:13); and thankfully He takes us through all the trials we encounter and teaches us to wait on Him, by entrusting all to Him (1Pe 5:7). It is He who directs our “hardness” (2Ti 2:3) and...

“As in Heaven, So in Earth”

I believe there is a difference between God’s “will” and God’s “desire.” His desire is that angels keep “their first estate,” but His will is “everlasting fire” (Mat 25:41) when they “leave” it (Jude 1:6). Same for man, as He “desires all men to be saved,” and “not desiring that any should...

    At Ease

I think I learn the most from the site link provided, which is a devotional that contains all of those prolific writers gleaned by Miles J Stanford. Been studying them for 20 of my 40 year walk in Christ, and I can't stress enough the level of teaching at which the Spirit uses them.

    At Ease

Hi, and thanks for the reply! Yes, I believe all of the Plymouth Brethren writers (1700's-1800's) were well used by God concerning spiritual growth and fellowship with God and one another.
