    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

Well...can it? I mean let's really think about the transactional nature of salvation. Christ extends forgiveness to all, right? For a person to be fully redeemed, we need to accept Christ as Lord, accept what he did on the cross in our place and repent. Repentance is a major character in the...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

Alright, let me put it this way: when we tell our children not to do something, like put their hands on the stove, or run across the street, do we just say 'don't'...or do we lay out what would happen should they do it? And does the information of what could happen make it surer that they...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

But is it different? Let's say that you're right and Paul is speaking only about the Jewish laws. He's still making the point that obeying set laws, set expectations of morality, will not, cannot, lead to salvation, or even keep it. Why would he then turn around and point to a different set of...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

You're right. I think the problem comes and the waters get murky because the bible does speak of works and of Christians becoming more righteous in their lives. But, its as you say, it important to know that salvation comes only from our being reckoned righteous. But once that exchange has taken...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

But, you will note that the passage doesn't actually say that Christians will become habitual sinners. The assumption that Christians can, or will, turn to sin more than they will turn to Christ is one that is read into the passage. And, as I mentioned in my conversation with HIH, with other...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

Ah, God's timing at work! I'm going to be out all day, and have just done a screaming fly-by of the forum to let you know like-wise! It might be a day or so until I find the time to get back to our conversation, but I'm most certainly be back as I am enjoying it! I so very rarely get the...

    Boys and your naked daughters...

 Europe...home of the enlightened. I wonder if HSLDA has and Australian counterpart, or good advice for Ozzies. We do have a NSW association, but they're in the middle of the mother of all cat fights...in the courts and all. I'm sort of tip toeing around them at present.

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

I think it still is a battle ground. Not one of stakes and burning, but still one of words and division. Which is sad. Even if such words are charitable, as they have been here, thank goodness, I suppose I still have a heavy heart that Christ would pay such a price to purchase something for us...

    Boys and your naked daughters...

I think you're right, actually. I'm not particularly a fan myself, so, ahem, not good at paying particular attention to the details he love to pour out. The book itself is set in England. But yeah, the broadcast was in America. And my word you could understand it! Think about if it even happened...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

Oh, the weightiest subject! I clearly have my opinion (ahem), but its so weighty I worry about my ability and right to stand up and proclaim it. Am I getting it right? Am I portraying it correctly? It's the sort of topic that frees or binds. Yes...weighty. And while I'm happy to toss around...

    Boys and your naked daughters...

I have to agree...the longer my kids are out, the more I've become aware of what they would have been taught should they still be in the classroom. So very glad it's my choice, not theirs.

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

I'm not sure that it matters, exactly. Whether 'guarantee' or 'down payment' for the greater to come...we still are bearers of the Holy Spirit, God within us. Even if we forget that Christ told us that what is his he will never let go of, even if we forget that Hebrews tells us that Christ...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

I'm just gonna quote that passage again, cause I find it helps to be looking at something when I'm talking about it! Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

But...is not the passage wholly geared towards what has passed and what now is? Where we once WERE enslaved to sin, "thanks be to God" we are now set free and are slaves to righteousness. Paul is assuming throughout the whole passage that those under grace will never turn back into FULL...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

I do understand what you are saying, and I understand that this is a very deep topic that can have many nuances. My objection to the idea that a Christian must essentially work to keep their salvation and is under the threat of being booted out of God's grace if he doesn't perform as he should...

How does Christianity Board handle personal attacks?

I can't say that I've been on other forums to have anything to judge it by. Perhaps that makes me odd, but there you go! I suppose it must be tough...where do you draw the line over some things? Where do you show grace? It's probably best that they do their 'mod-ing' behind closed doors as well...

    Boys and your naked daughters...

Ah...yeah....not sure that those things were even really in those movies. Certainly not talked about front and center. Maybe background issues left for people to make their own assumptions...? I don't think it hurts, really, to have people thinking about the 'forever' issue. It might have them...

How does Christianity Board handle personal attacks?

@Helen ...that's good to know about the mods! It's so bizarre that I just don't see them! Maybe I never go on the threads they go on. Or, maybe they're all in US and sleep when I'm on! Still, it's nice to know they are keeping an eye on things. There are times I wish they'd pop their mod hats on...

    Interpreting Romans 6:23 In Context

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you here. Many times the NT discusses justification it is a present thing. Some examples: Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace...
