    The question about 'soul'

Do you agree that the word soul is of Germanic origin and is not in the ancient biblical manuscripts? Do you agree that the word soul isn't used in English versions of Gen 1:21,30 or Gen 2:19 to describe animals? Do you agree that the Hebrew word nepes ( נֶפֶשׁ ) doesn't mean "the...

    Pope Francis does good again!

From BBC News: "A senior Italian cleric has been charged with laundering millions through the Vatican bank, police say. Monsignor Nunzio Scarano is already on trial and under house arrest on separate charges of plotting to smuggle 20m euros ($26m; £17m) into Italy. The former Vatican...

    The Cross and a gun???

As I said before, the LORD Jesus rebuked Peter for using his sword for the wrong reason. The arrest of Jesus was a part of God's plan, but Peter did not know it. Keep in mind that the LORD Jesus Himself told his disciples to acquire a sword if they did not already have one.

All the righteous Jews in Israel will be removed or chased out of Israel during the tribulation peri

Poppin, there are Messianic Jews in Israel, the kind who worship Jesus as Messiah, but they are in a minority and persecuted if their faith in Messiah Jesus is made known.

Is Water Baptism Necessary for Salvation ?

When the thief on the cross confessed faith in Jesus, what did Jesus say to the thief in return? "Today, you shall be with me in Paradise." The last time that I checked, Paradise isn't Hell.

    The Cross and a gun???

In the Old Testament, David had plenty of faith in God, but he still used a sling-shot to kill Goliath.

Strange Fire - A Pentecostal Response

I (in my Human guise, of course) grew up in Tulsa County, which is the Mecca of the Charismatic Movement in the USA. Having resided in Tulsa County for most of my life (as a Melmacian in Human guise, of course), I have witnessed the Charismatic teachings that I describe in my previous post in...

    The question about 'soul'

The word soul is not in the ancient Hebrew manuscripts, and it is not in the ancient Greek manuscripts, because the word soul comes from a language that wasn't used by any of the biblical authors. So, does the Greek word psuchē (ψυχὴ) always have the same meaning as the Hebrew word nepes (...

Whatever happened to not putting the LORD your God to the test?

Evolution: don't let Satan make a monkey out of you!

I am not a biologist. So, it is not up to me to endorse a scientific theory pertaining to the scientific discipline of Biology. However, I will say that it is a violation of the rules of Science to require empirical data or a scientific theory to pass a religious litmus test.

    Headcoverings for women in church

Here is what I do not understand. In some congregations it is acceptable for women to go without head covering - contradicting the Apostle Paul - and yet it is unacceptable for women to be elders/pastors. it is as if people accept Paul's instructions only if they feel like doing so.

Evolution: don't let Satan make a monkey out of you!

I agree. The relationship between faith and Science is a particular area of study that I have been engaged in for quite a number of years. I actually started out as a Young-Earth Creationist who believed the same claims that YECs have made in this discussion thread. Then I realized that I...

Strange Fire - A Pentecostal Response

Poppin, you make an excellent point. God's grace is sufficient for us, and, thus we don't need to see signs and wonders in order to have a deep faith. God's written Word is sufficient for us, and, thus, we don't need any alleged "prophecies".

    CATHOLIC CHURCH REPORTS

Uh, that's an urban legend that's false. Anyway, back to the original topic. I have read how the Bible ends, and it says that the God of Christianity wins. ^_^

    The Cross and a gun???

Folks, Jesus rebuked Peter for using a sword for the wrong reason. Having a sword for self-defense isn't spoken against in the Bible. People tend to get Christ's instruction about personal insults (turn the other cheek) confused with an instruction about self-defense.

Strange Fire - A Pentecostal Response

I do not know how it is in other nations, but in the USA, plenty of false teachings on the part of charismatics have fueled cessationist thinking. First, popular charismatic teachers keep claiming that every Christian should speak in tongues, which contradicts what the Apostle Paul says in 1...

I believe one who deliberately sins in not a Christian.

A person being spiritually saved doesn't make the person's flesh unable to sin anymore. As williemac said, "We certainly have not been saved from the ability to sin, nor the possibility of sinning." Yes, the Apostle Paul contrasts the carnal mindset with the spiritual mindset. The carnal...

Faith in Christ or Faith in our faith.

I am not claiming that sin will reign. I merely quoted what Paul said about his own behavior. Here is what Paul says in Romans 8:10 (ESV): "If Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness."

Exodus 34:6-7, The Character of God.

Revelation 22:14-15 (ESV): "Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices...

    The question about 'soul'

The fact that the KJV translates nepes [ נֶפֶשׁ ] as soul doesn't mean that the word soul is always the proper translation of nepes [ נֶפֶשׁ ]. Again, the KJV isn't the standard for comparison. Indeed, no English version is the standard for comparison. Plus, the word soul isn't in the Hebrew...
