    Sufficency of Scripture

That is true. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Scripture is not given to the world but to God's people. The first criteria is to put Him first. This failure explains the positions of a few people. Christianity is not knowing about Christ but knowing Him. We must point these people...

    Sufficency of Scripture

I agree. I have actually seen people on another board defend the sufficiency of Scripture by quoting Confessions, commentaries, and pastors. We had a member (long gone) who would answer everything with a "Way of the Master" quote or a statement from John MacArthur. I thought "how stupid". He...

Was the death on the cross necessary?

The issue is they need to desire to repent and turn from their religion and to Christ. This desire, I believe, comes from God Himself. Otherwise we are content in the humanistic philosophies we have created (or other men have handed down) because they make no demands of us and suit a worldly...

    Sufficency of Scripture

OK. I understand now what you are saying. I agree.

    Sufficency of Scripture

You are making sense, but I still may disagree to an extent. Here is why - we are told to "test" the spirits, to test doctrines, and to discern proper teaching. The method given is Scripture. So it depends on what is being revealed. God does reveal truths that are not in the Bible to people...

    Sufficency of Scripture

Those who wrote Scripture did so by the revelation of God. The "test" of what they wrote was different in the OT (God affirmed the words delivered). Today we have Scripture. That is our test of doctrine. "Sufficiency of Scripture" means we do not turn to Confessions or traditions to test...

Was the death on the cross necessary?

True. There are a few "Christians" who substitute their theories for Christianity. And you are right, the fact Christian faith goes beyond our personal convictions, that it is focused on Christ and not traditions, makes many uncomfortable.

I feel ya bro! Lol.. Some folks just bring out the jerk in us. A few deserve it. Lol.

Was the death on the cross necessary?

They are very much cult-like. They deny classic Christianity, historical Christianity, and Scripture. They replace history with a claim the Church has always held their theory - nevermind no historical evidence exists of anyone in the early church teaching God punished Jesus instead of...

Trump using the Bible as a prop...

Pup is good. Yes, I do believe that God raised up people like Adolph Hitler for His purposes. I believe that the evils committed by Hitler were used by God and ultimately within God's plan (personally I believe this can be seen in the establishment of Israel as a nation, but I know Christians...

Was the death on the cross necessary?

I need to post this because of the false doctrines that are held by a few indoctrinated people. It is up to the individual Christian to judge what he or she will allow in their minds, what they will believe. The test of doctrine is Scripture – NOT what we believe Scripture teaches but...

But But But....what those words really "teach", what they "mean' is......:D

Trump using the Bible as a prop...

There is a “spirit” on this forum that should not be in the lives of Christians. I admit that I support President Trump and his platform. That is just a fact about me. But I have been attacked as serving another god because I dare to question one thing President Trump has done. This is...

Was the death on the cross necessary?

ἱλασμός is used twice in the New Testament. It has been translated "propitiation" and "expiation" (both are appropriate). ἱλασμός means "atoning sacrifice, sin offering, propitiation, expiation, one who makes propitiation/ expiation". In the Bible ἱλασμός means "One who makes propitiation/...

Trump using the Bible as a prop...

Scripture says that God puts these governments in power. Christians need to realize this. God uses these leaders for His purposes. God did not permit those nations to rise up and take Israel and Judah captive. God caused those nations to rise up, God gave those nations power over Israel and...

Was the death on the cross necessary?

Yep. Calvinists are notorious for "double-speak", deconstructing Scripture, and changing the meanings of words to suit their philosophy. PSA shares this quality (it is originally a Calvinistic theory). PSA is the best example of what happens when people ignore God's warning not to be deceived...

Trump using the Bible as a prop...

Odd. The Bible states that God raised up Babylon and Persia (both ungodly empires). Those "sick ideas" are God's words, not mine. Your disagreement is with Him, not me. He is the one you call "sick" (I am only repeating what Scripture).

Trump using the Bible as a prop...

Scripture says otherwise. God raises up leaders and governments (even evil leaders) for His purposes. You do not get to say Scripture is true only when it applies to your candidate. Even Pelosi is there for a reason. That said, I agree she is evil. But God has used evil people throughout...

Was the death on the cross necessary?

@justbyfaith, I am leaving our conversation. For now I am ignoring comments by you, @Anthony D'Arienzo, and @Enoch111. The reason us with any theological discussions there has to be ground rules or agreed upon presuppositions. For me, the test for doctrine is Scripture - not theologies and...

Was the death on the cross necessary?

Again, more misdirection. Propitiation does not mean substitutionary punishment. ἱλασμός points to Christ as the One through Whom God's wrath is "turned aside". No one denies this. I believe most here are more intelligent than you give them credit.
