The Scriptures are God's Greatest Gift to Mankind

There may be, and that is also an issue. Heresy does not come in one flavor.

The Scriptures are God's Greatest Gift to Mankind

I agree. But you have to keep in mind that there are some "Christians" who now effectively hold that "God is dead". They rightly believe God has given us Scripture but beyond the Bible reject any concept of a living God. They hold a form of godliness but deny its power. To them God does not...

The Scriptures are God's Greatest Gift to Mankind

God loving mankind by giving His Son that all men who believe will be saved is God's greatest gift. The giving of His Son (not the giving of Scripture) is how God has loved the world. We can reason out different answers, but Scripture only gives us this one. God is love. God loved mankinfmd...

The Scriptures are God's Greatest Gift to Mankind

Scripture testifies about Jesus. Scripture is not Jesus. Scripture does not save. It point to the One who saves (it is a testament to God's redemptive plan, salvation history a, God's dealings with men, the formation and history of Israel, and the gospel of Christ).

The Scriptures are God's Greatest Gift to Mankind

Not only that, but the early Christians were saved without the benefit of at least NT Scriptures. Paul did not preach Scripture on Mars Hill but relied on their knowledge of God (in their context) to present the gospel of Jesus Christ. Don't get me wrong. Scripture is important. But God is not...

    Fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks

That could be problematic. I have heard people say they should shoot a leg. But that would mean a lot of missed shots. The bullet that misses its target finds another. In the military we always trained center mass.

    Fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks

This will be an interesting one. The suspect did commit a violent crime when he was shot (attacking police, taking taser which BLM has argued is fatal force). But the suspect was running away and was shot in the back. What does not make sense is why the situation escalated to the point someone...

WHY IS THE CHURCH GOING OUT BACKWARD?

I believe because so much of the "Church" is false. I think that there are a few reasons why it declines. (This will be from my perspective - I'm SBC). First, we now have Scripture and interpretations at hand with a click of a mouse. This places some ideas that have driven doctrine since the...

    Why the trinity?

You may want to look again. The angel did tell John to worship God. BUT the angel did not make the distinction you are claiming (at least not in Scripture).

    Sufficency of Scripture

Absolutely - Scripture was never given to the world (to those who do not believe). It was given to those who fo believe (who are "quickened"). Only a fool would quote Scripture to those who do not believe requiring them to accept the Bible as God's words so they will believe. Even the gospel...

    Sufficency of Scripture

Might I suggest Proverbs 26:4 and Matthew 7:6 may apply here?

    Sufficency of Scripture

An issue is people can believe Scripture is the Word of God and still not have Christ (or be "in Christ). Jesus spoke of this in Matthew -" workers in the field" who are "unknown" by the One they believe they serve. Some have a religion based in Scripture, theology and philosophy rather than...

    Sufficency of Scripture

They use "God-breathed" (literally divinely breathed) because that is the derivitive of θεόπνευστος which we translate "inspired". I think the reason is that Jesus Christ treated the OT as God's Word. In the NT Jesus told the Disciples God (the Spirit) would tell them (bring to their mind)...

    Sufficency of Scripture

Yep. Scripture is God's words to us. It is "God breathed". But a few here have placed their philosophy over Scripture and Scripture over Christ. Jesus Christ is God's fullest revelation of Himself - the Word. Christ saves - not Scripture. Scripture did not shed its pages to redeem us...

    Sufficency of Scripture

Well.... At least they are not claiming Calvinism is the gospel.....yet. So maybe they are not too far gone.

    Sufficency of Scripture

I am baptist and a staff member (a moderator) on a Baptist board. Believe it or not we even have Baptists who toss out the Westminster Confession as an authority of their faith.
  17. John Caldwell

    Sufficency of Scripture

Exactly. These "Christians" say they believe Scripture but they turn things around. It is "double-speak". Scripture does not mean what it says to them. It means what their chosen masters have told them it says. Rather than testing the philosophy of men against Scripture they use these...

a new house for sis. R

What an exciting time for her. Praying God blesses her as she decides on a home.

    Sufficency of Scripture

Amen!!! The problem is some "Christians" believe God has given them those confessions and men to guide the (like a cult member following a divinely inspired guru or a spirit guide). But each of them choose these men (whether Pink, Hill, Wesley, Joseph Smith, Jim Jones). Ultimately they are...

    Sufficency of Scripture

Yes. Time and time again I see "Christians" who are devoted to their theologies and philosophies but they appear ambivalent about Christ Himself (not facts about Christ but the work of Christ in our lives). They worship knowledge, not God. They have a "form of godliness but deny its power"...
