    Calvinism

California. :D Which "hell"? Scripture refers to two places (depending on the translation). Sheol refers to the grave (where dead souls are). Hell in terms of "the Lake of Fire" is where death and hades (hell) will be cast at the final Judgment. Scripture does not assign a place for either.

Yes. The author of Hebrews admonished his audience for a lack of spiritual growth. In the context they never grew out of the "milk" stage. There was other things they should be taught but they could not digest those teachings due to their infancy. I believe the context was a type of legal...
  3. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

Some hold Calvinism as their understanding of the gospel (which is fair). Others hold it as the gospel itself (which is "another gospel" than preached by the Apostles). Calvinism as the gospel is powerless.
  4. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

It is actually a biblical principle. Until one grasps the basic things of the faith that person cannot understand more advanced teachings.
  5. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

I think to him the "meat" of the Word is Calvinism. The flesh cannot understand spiritual things. That is his first obsticle - to turn from human philosophy and simply trust God and His Word. This is repentance and has to come first.
  6. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

Many of us were like that at one time. We learn and grow. He'll grow out of it....or he wont. We can only hope and pray.....toss a few pearls his way.
  7. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

This is an issue in our churches. People convert and are indoctrinated and sent out to preach and teach. There is no spiritual growth, just the acquisition of knowledge and philosophy. We have babes in Christ misleading other babes from true discipleship. No wonder they are so illiterate. But...
  8. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

Yes....that is EXACTLY what he believes. I asked him to provide text stating his belief and got a deer in the headlight type of reaction.
  9. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

Me? No. I just offered what you said. I am not responsible for how it makes you look. You said theology does not work in such a way as to provide evidence from the text of Scripture (what is actually written). Mine does. Why do you believe yours does not?
  10. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

That is what you said, not me. For some reason you seem believe my statement that Calvinism did not exist pre-Calvin, its systematized soteriological placement did not exist pre-Beza, and TULIP did not exist pre-Dort. It is simple history, kid. Not ad hominem. Calvinism is not found in any...
  11. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

You can imagine it did, but prior to Calvin there is no evidence. And even here it is not TULIP Calvinism. I know you believe I am a snake because I disagree with you. If you felt otherwise I would be offended. There should always be enmity between your philosophy and the Church.
  12. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

Do not be childish. You do not represent all Calvinists. Here is your reference, kid. You did say "good theology", do I guess technically you could mean Calvinism is bad theology....but then we'd agree.
  13. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

I did not mean exactly 500 years ago, but in the 16th century. Sorry you found the statement confusing. But even if I did mean Calvinism began exactly 500 years ago that would not be ad hominem. I respect this board and will not bring the BB here (it is not only a violation of rules but it is...
  14. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

You believe I posted that you responded with a gif or meme? Is this the same attentiveness you afford Scripture?
  15. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). I meant Calvinists cannot defend their view with Scripture ( @David Taylor voiced this when he said that was not how theology works). Many cults affirm Scripture, but fail to produce actual passages proving their doctrines...
  16. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

Open your Bible to A.W. Pink chapter 3.....:p I doubt any of the Calvinists here advocate bringing Bibles to a theology fight. You risk knocking down the house of cards they've been building for 500 years.
  17. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

    LOL....good luck with that. :p
  18. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

Also, we do not have to read as if the author is an authority. One of the most sinful ideas I have encountered is that God gave us the authors the speaker agrees with as teachers while all others are false. I do not completely agree with Wesley, Piper, J.I. Packer, Karl Barth, Søren...

A New Transformation is required for the modern Church

"Nothing short of a change of church culture will suffice—from a culture of entertainment, politics, personality, and program to a culture of discipleship." This is the key, IMHO. In the Bible people are Christians because they model their lives after Jesus. This is what being a disciple was...

    Calvinism

I agree. If on page 3 he said "just kidding, I know we don't judge servants of Another and you folks are not under my charge" we'd never know if we stopped on page 2.
