Only because you have predetermined what you want the verse to say. There is no reason to take the wages of sin to be the punishment for sin (I believe there is a punishment for sin, but it is not physical death). Judgment has always been beyond death.

I know you think they do. But you also think "wage" and "penalty" are interchangeable words so I can take that misunderstanding with a grain of salt :p .

I agree. I think the problem comes in when we become unable to distinguish the boxes we build from the Word they are built around.

Like I said....if my words prove beyond your grasp how can you be trusted with God's?

Is there a Trinity? No, of course not. That's a rather stupid and offensive question. The word "Trinity" is a philosophical expression to refer to a specific understanding of God. God is not a thing. There is the Godhead which refers to the Father, Son, and Spirit as One God. If so, is the...

Quite often Scripture states as fact truths it does not seem necessary to explain. Have you ever considered how much the early church accepted without a need to "figure it out"? That's the difference between spiritual truth and human wisdom. Calvinism is Christian themed, but in the end it is...

    Calvinism

I do believe that God is One. And I believe that the Father, Son, and Spirit comprise the Godhead. I hold a Classic (early) definition of the Trinity and try to avoid the accompanying philosophy as much as I can. It is enough for me to know that I can only know the Father through Christ by the...

    Calvinism

I meant exactly what I said - no more and no less. I made a very simple statement and wanted to see if who would make assumptions. The reason is that if one makes assumptions on my simple comment then how on earth can they be trusted not to make assumptions with God's Word?

Try out your reading comprehension skills. Did I?

I do not believe Him the 2nd person of the Trinity. A lot of trinitarian doctrines are philosophical (and open to discussion). I think you are missing the point. Our understandings are always additions to Scripture. I believe many things that are products of systematic theology. And I would be...

    Calvinism

I understabd tge wages of sin are death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus. I was asking you to back up the rest (what is not in Scripture) by Scripture. But you already told us it is not there. You cannot see your theology in the text of Scripture because it is not there. You...

    Calvinism

If that is what you believe it means that is fine. I question your hermeneutics (that would be "I am the Father").
  14. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

That was all I was asked....and 2 out of 3 ain't bad.:D Genesis 1 (among other passages) speaks of the Spirit of God.

It is not a strawman, David. It is a question. Why do you believe that death is a punishment for sin rather than a consequence? Why redefine "wage"?
  16. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

John 10:30 The Father and I are one.
  17. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

He has me as well by hiding the dictionary from a few Calvinists here - not as a punishment for a wrong doing but to teach me patience :D
  18. John Caldwell

    Calvinism

David, I cannot understand why you believe "wage" means "punishment". I do not know why you believe it appropriate to change the actual word for something you believe it implies (to me, this seems dishonest). So lets approach it this way: Scripture states the "wages" of sin are death...

It was both. Read the entire Psalm. Jesus did grow up under discipline.

The problem it does change the meaning. Stop trying to give God a hand and take Him for what is written.
