Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

I wish I could claim it, but it is a term that has been used by mainstream theologians for some time, now. Best wishes, 2RM

Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

Yes, I feel much the same way, but I might add the products of rape and incest to the list, if that was desired by the mother-to-be. Best wishes, 2RM.

Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

So would it be your contention, then, that those foetuses produced as a result of lust may be aborted, and those born by the Spirit of God may not? And if so, how are we to tell the difference? Best wishes, 2RM.

Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

Ah well, God knows the answer to the above question regarding the date of ensoulment. I don't, and I can only go by such evidence as I have. So I use phrases like 'I feel that' or 'I tend to the view that' or 'I'm inclined to the opinion that' to signpost when I just don't have a precise...

How can we know God is Good?

I quoted Stephen Law, because His observations seem pertinent. For myself, I tend to the opinion that God is good, not evil, but it is a contention that needs be argued for, in the light of Law's comments. Best wishes, 2RM.

How can we know God is Good?

Hmmm. If they were my thoughts alone, you would have a good point. But a fair few people think much the same as I do (or I think much the same as a fair few people, whichever you prefer). As for God's intervention, then I believe God gave us minds and consciences, and expects us to use them...

How can we know God is Good?

I'd be interested in your comments on this thread! Best wishes, 2RM.

Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

These are all good questions. There seem to be three significant dates. These are, in order, a) the date of conception, b) the date of viability c) the date of birth. My own feeling is that 'ensoulment', the date of humanity being installed on a foetus, happens at conception. But some believe it...

    So, hey everyone!

I read the Screwtape Letters around 30 years ago, before I became a Christian. It is probably high time I read it again. I haven't read the Great Divorce. If it turns up in my favourite second hand bookshop, I'll buy it. Thanks for the recommendations. Best wishes, 2RM.

Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

So, we seem to have wandered off-topic. I will start a new thread where I intend to discuss the matter at hand, and try and pull the strings together. But that may take me some time. Thank you for your patience. Best wishes, 2RM.

Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

On the contrary, one doesn't have to know everything to get a sense of one's own ignorance. One does need to know all the pertinent facts, however, if one claims to know the 'actual' objective truth about some topic. Best wishes, 2RM.

Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

Hmmm. Let me render my argument as transparent as I can. Premise 1) The 'Actual Truth' is complete and comprehensive. Premise 2) God is omniscient, and knows the 'Actual Truth'. Premise 3) No human has a complete and comprehensive command of knowledge. Premise 4) @An Apologetic Sheepdog is a...

A brave testimony. Best wishes, 2RM.

How can we know God is Good?

Yes, I like this 'individual and common good defense', so far as moral evils are concerned. It is certainly consistent with my experience, but doesn't work quite so well against natural evils. Best wishes, 2RM.

Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

I agree that abortion shows no love for the unborn baby to be, and it is finding that love that transcends pro-choice. I would just caution against casting judgment, since theory may not reflect the circumstances, and judgment is likely to alienate the very people, the mothers to be, we want to...

Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

No need to look too far back then. Since the actual truth must be complete and comprehensive, as well as cogent, consistent and coherent, that clearly implies you know as much as God. Best wishes 2RM.

Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

Well, you could start by explaining your arrogant assumption that you know as much as God. On what grounds do you make this claim? And if you could answer that in a well mannered way, that would earn you a bonus: your choice of the next question I answer. Best wishes, 2RM.

Can you be pro-choice and still be a Christian?

Yes, I do evade some questions. The questions I evade are barely disguised insults, loaded questions, and irrelevances. Since your world view is so objective, I would have thought you would have realised that by now. Best wishes, 2RM.
