    Environmental Rights (and Wrongs)

I couldn't agree more with this. The problem is, others suffer from our mistakes, and we suffer from theirs. I think this God's way of saying 'love your neighbour as yourselves. Or else!' 2000 years since Jesus, and we all still don't seem to have absorbed this simple message. Best wishes, 2RM.

    Environmental Rights (and Wrongs)

I shouldn't say that God is directly responsible for climate change. I think He just set up the system such that it would result in destruction if we abused the environment, which seems to be what is going on right now. Mankind has agency; we can fix the mistakes we are making if that is what we...

    Environmental Rights (and Wrongs)

Should the environment, animate and/or inanimate, be assigned rights? Or has God already assigned these, and we just need to work out what they are? Best wishes, 2RM.

Do you respect and admire the Amish people and their way of life?

I voted, 'It depends'. I certainly admire the depth of their Christianity, but, like many I suspect, I'm not so sure about their ambivalent attitude towards technology. I regard technology as both a blessing and a curse. A balanced individual will discriminate between the two, and accept the...

    How rich is too rich?

Hmmm. So do you think the poor are poor through their own fault?

    How rich is too rich?

No, this is a fallacy promoted by the rich as justification for social injustice. Take a company capitalised to $1,000,000. Maybe one individual owns all the shares. Or maybe 1,000 people each own a stake of $1,000. Either way, it won't affect the day-to-day running of the company. It's just...

    How rich is too rich?

'Fraid so. The idea of Jesus the man as omniscient, like our God who fathered Him, is just not consistent with scripture. The closest Jesus comes to a statement on the matter is to command us to love each other as ourselves. Given that love, no sacrifice is too great; without it, no sacrifice...

    How rich is too rich?

My own suspicion is that you can either be rich, or Christian, but not both simultaneously, given a world in which so many hunger. Best wishes, 2RM.

    How rich is too rich?

It's not a silly question, at all. Jesus had a rather dusty attitude towards wealth, best exemplified by the parable of Lazerus the beggar*. However if we are to tackle the issue today, I believe the best approach is through economics, which is a field of knowledge Jesus had no access to. A few...

Help me to survive - appeal from a mental patient

That's OK. Good luck. Best wishes, 2RM.

Help me to survive - appeal from a mental patient

Yes, I know those side-effects and they do make one's life pretty miserable. When I told the doctor about them, though, he took me off my old medications and put me on Olanzapine and Venlafaxine. And I have had no issues in respect of side-effects since. Best wishes, 2RM.

Help me to survive - appeal from a mental patient

There is hope, my friend. You don't mention the medication you are on, but I suggest you talk to your doctor about Venlafaxine and Olanzapine. I have been taking them for around 10 years now, and can just about cope with life. Wishing you all the best, 2RM.

How can we know God is Good?

He gave me the spine to resist temptation, and showed me what Jesus had had to do to give me that spine. Best wishes, 2RM.

How can we know God is Good?

Man's understanding of goodness is what is subjectively good; what is good for him and those he loves. God's understanding of goodness is what is objectively good; what really is good. Does that help? Best wishes, 2RM.

How can we know God is Good?

    Difference between what?

How can we know God is Good?

I think you've made an important point. I, too, regard what God thinks to be good as objectively good. And the scriptures relate, at least in part, humanities development in understanding that term. Where we differ is that I think we have some way to go before we can make a claim to that...

How can we know God is Good?

Addiction to drugs makes people happy, briefly, when they score. But it would be a foolish individual who thought that evil a good, and made it the purpose of their lives. Best wishes, 2RM.

How can we know God is Good?

Yes, I think this persuasive. I am not so cynical as to think repentance is a sham, having been through the process personally, and with some still to go. But what, precisely, do you mean by God's grace? Best wishes, 2RM.

How can we know God is Good?

I can understand this position. Generally, we tend to think that what is good is what is good for us. More advanced thinkers may hold that what is good is what is good is what is good for our own society, nation or world. And that is where the scope for debate creeps in. Best wishes, 2RM.

How can we know God is Good?

OK, so God is an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent being who created the universe. In fact, the only difference between Good God and Evil God is that Good God is omni-benevolent and Evil God isn't. So how would you tell them apart? Best wishes, 2RM.
