    Difficulty Reconciling

I appreciate it. Well, here's the thing : in the OP, I mentioned verses that seem to hinge eternal life on two seemingly mutually exclusive things. One says if you believe you will have eternal life, the other says if you do the things God wants you will have eternal life. It may be that you...

    Difficulty Reconciling

In the OP, verses were cited about how eternal life is said to be by faith alone, then, other verses were cited that show eternal life is by works. Are you saying you agree eternal life is faith alone, and it is by works, also, and your reconciliation of the two is that "The Holy Spirit makes...

    Difficulty Reconciling

Thank you. So, would you say that your way of reconciling the two would be that "Yes, you have eternal life when you believe, but, also, once you believe, then you must also do the things that Jesus says, and, in that way, you are simply retaining the eternal life you already have by faith"?

    Difficulty Reconciling

Your idea is not the idea of the OP. If you have an idea for an OP, then post your idea, make a thread of your own. As for me, my idea was to ask others for their findings. I was curious. It wasn't necessarily a challenge to others' findings (though I do probe them afterwards), I am genuinely...

    Difficulty Reconciling

I had already had my own ideas, but I was looking for others' ideas, so that it might help me.
  6. GracePeace

    Difficulty Reconciling

The OP asks you to share your personal findings, NOT tell me a method whereby I might find the answer. I want YOUR answer. You're saying "believe the whole Bible". Well, no one would disagree. Even if I accepted "Believe the whole Bible" answer, fine, I'm asking you what you found when you read...

    Difficulty Reconciling

How am I making things harder than they have to be? Either share your findings, or move on. It's that simple. When you read these things, if you found them to be in conflict (superficially), as I have, what was your resolution to them?

    Difficulty Reconciling

You can share your personal findings when ever you please. The rest of the speculation is unwarranted and out of place. You do not have to engage in the discussion if you don't want to, but please leave the drama (speculative accusations) out.

    Difficulty Reconciling

I'm not asking you to tell me a method I can employ for how to reconcile the issue myself, I am soliciting you all for your actual personal findings. It really is not difficult.

    Difficulty Reconciling

Again, the OP already explained it. I don't know why I'm being asked to recapitulate.
  11. GracePeace

    Difficulty Reconciling

Wow, what a great way to have a discussion! As you've said--which I've also answered, but I guess you didn't bother reading that either. Again, what a great way to "discuss" (pretend to discuss). I've already addressed this--again, I guess you didn't read. You're pretending to discuss. You're...

    Difficulty Reconciling

I have had many threads where I have been open to hearing all arguments from all the Scriptures, but, in this thread, I had wanted to stick to John's writings. If you don't want to do that, that is fine, but that was what I had wanted to do for this thread.
  13. GracePeace

    Difficulty Reconciling

Not sure how this answers the OP.
  14. GracePeace

    Difficulty Reconciling

Yes, and I did answer this, and have awaited your answer to my answer.
  15. GracePeace

    Difficulty Reconciling

No, not at all. I simply ask about some ideas in John's Gospel, and only want to use John's Gospel (and/or his epistles, which elaborate on his Gospel). I have had other threads where I have been open to using the entire Bible--as you know--but this one single one I have wanted to be different...
  16. GracePeace

    Difficulty Reconciling

    I explained in the OP.
  17. GracePeace

    Difficulty Reconciling

Again, I think you said your resolution is the standard one--ie, the one who "truly" believes has eternal life, and this other part, about eternal life depending on continuing in good works, is resolved by the idea that the one who "truly" believes is born of God, and will, by dint of their new...
  18. GracePeace

    Difficulty Reconciling

I didn't want to discuss Paul or James in this thread, just John's Gospel.
  19. GracePeace

    Difficulty Reconciling

    1. I'm trying to stick to John's Gospel for this thread. 2. So, it sounds like your way of reconciling the two would be the typical "If you really believe, you have eternal life by faith alone, but it's also true that eternal life is by works, as John says, but if you're born of God, you will...

In a way, yes, and, in a way, no... bc I could always agree with Justification by Faith, but I also saw ongoing and ultimate Justification, and wondered how to practically (not just on paper) navigate those, bc one can negate the other.
