    THE GOSPEL

The point is not that the Law does not require spiritiual good things, just that It is not the means of service, but grace is the means, in the New Covenant--"God's righteousness apart from the Law", not our own righteousness by the Law, and the Law's righteous requirements are fulfilled in us...

    THE GOSPEL

No doubt, just saying it may be that people can treat the commands found in the Gospels and Epistles the same way as the Law and the error and result may be the same.

    THE GOSPEL

No, when Paul argues that we are not under Law, he describes the works of the Law as that through which we come to know sin, and he then says he would not have known what it was to covet had the Law not said "thou shalt not covet", so when he comes to know sin of coveting through the Law, that...

    THE GOSPEL

OK The issue with being "under the Law" is that it is a righteousness of one's own, being that it emanates from the flesh (Ro 8:3; Gal 3:3), so isn't it also possible that someone could try to do the commands we all think apply to us in the New Covenant in our own power, apart from grace, as well?

    THE GOSPEL

Irrespectively (it's not really the point)... I just wondered what the difference would be or if someone could be "under the Law" in a sense in seeking to obey all of these commands just as if he tried to obey the commands in the Law.

    THE GOSPEL

No, by "New Testament", I mean all of those writings that are included in the compilation we Christians have come to call "The New Testament".

    OSAS : Gnostic Heresy

Are you disputing it? Why not address the text if so? Speaking about the idolatrous nations, who know God NOT by special revelation, but by general revelation (vv17+), he explains, "32and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they...

    THE GOSPEL

Right, but the next question would be why that is. How is seeking justification by the Law a negation of their faith in Christ? I have answers, but I want to perfectly understand the general principle so that it applies to me--and perhaps move othersto consider these things. What's the...

    THE GOSPEL

The Galatians didn't deny Christ's death and resurrection, but they sought maturity/perfection by being under the Law of Moses, and, somehow, by doing this, their belief in Christ's death and resurrection was being invalidated, so that they were departing from God (Gal 1:6), because of believing...

    OSAS : Gnostic Heresy

Actually, the issue was whether the Gentiles had derived "do not murder" from the Law. I simply denied that, and cited Romans 1 as my proof. I also showed from Ro 2 and 1 Co 9 that the Gentiles are alwayse described as being "without the Law". You haven't answered any of that. Romans 7, which...

    OSAS : Gnostic Heresy

That wasn't the issue bring discussed. You tried proving that man's knowledge that murder was wrong proved they had been given or put under Law. Ro 1 debunks that. Also, both Ro 2 and 1 Co 9 distinguish the lost Gentiles as "without the Law" (contrasted against Jews who are under Law). Also...

    OSAS : Gnostic Heresy

Ro 8 isn't about unsaved people knowing right and wrong without having the Law, Ro 1 is. That's the issue at hand here. Why are they "condemned" (Ro 14:23) when they sin, then? The Law was an ostensible means of service; the means of service under the New Covenant is the Spirit of Grace (eg...

    OSAS : Gnostic Heresy

It's hard to believe any sincere person who has watched the video would answer this way. Proverbs 18:13 If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.

    OSAS : Gnostic Heresy

Romans 1 was cited. I'll wait for your reply to it. The rest is irrelevant drama. Yeah, this verse only proves that when the Christian sins he is not abiding in Christ--if they were they wouldn't be condemned, as Ro 14:23 says. Yup, the Jewish believers he was addressing needed to be taught...

    OSAS : Gnostic Heresy

I guess the cult isn't effective with me bc I don't wonder if it leads to license, I just oppose it bc I'm a stickler for accuracy. No, people know it's wrong bc it's self evident. Lots of nations (all the non-Jewish ones) were never given the Law and still developed prohibitions against...

    OSAS : Gnostic Heresy

Lots of people like myself don't view it that way. I object bc it's inaccurate, but I don't think it necessarily leads to "license to sin". The Jew is freed from his obligation to serve by the Law, but, to be clear, the Gentile was never obligated to keep the Law, so they aren't "freed" from it...

    OSAS : Gnostic Heresy

This presentation doesn't, by itself, prove the case against the common version of OSAS (I also hold to a form of OSAS), it's just another witness in addition to all the Scriptural arguments that are furnished--"In addition to the Scriptural arguments against your version of OSAS, isn't it...

Earning Knowledge of God / Eternal Life

He told His disciples to teach it to the nations so that they would "observing all things what ever I have taught you", so it's there for us. 1. God doesn't change. He still forgets both sin and righteousness. The faith is counted as righteousness. The righteousness of faith can be forgotten...

Earning Knowledge of God / Eternal Life

No, actually it demonstrates that not all "true believers" continually abide in Him, which is my view. Yeah he hoped the harsh penalty would wake him up to repentance so his spirit might be saved. This proves my view. You're wrong. He said his conscience was clear, and he wasn't aware that he...

Earning Knowledge of God / Eternal Life

Jesus charges the believers with sin in Revelation. Paul charged the man for sleeping his father's wife, and handed him over to satan to destroy his flesh. Paul also says the one who doesn't do what he believes is sinning and is condemned. Jesus says if you don't forgive, the forgiveness that...
