I'm in the same boat. I don't do much tv myself, so I haven't gotten to it, but it is on the "to watch" list.

Why do you assume that God's plan for you, me, or this world was one akin to a perfectly smooth cruise ship ride? Wherein everyone is just to be pampered and entertained all day? That's not how God or His plan works. We are called to action, and each consistently going though a refiners fire.

I think that this statement would be more accurate is you replaced "non-Catholic Christians" with "some Protestants". As there are plenty of non-Catholic Christians whom do acknowledge that these powers continue (LDS and Orthodox being two examples that readily come to mind).

For the record, LDS Christians ("Mormons") firmly believe that the Apostles powers continue after the death of the original 12 apostles.

For me, my witness of God's Truth comes from testimony of the Holy Spirit to me directly. It doesn't depend on the exact literal accuracy of a human's written account.
