Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

It's a helpful way to think, even if it's not based on all of Scripture. It would be good if more people thought that way.

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

The topic is "abiding is necessary for eternal life", and that some do not abide, which debunks OSAS. HOW to abide is tangentially related, but it's not the topic, and I may decide not to address it if it is raised, because I see that someone wants to import an entire new discussion (eg...

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

Yeah, they bear fruit if they abide, and they're cut off and thrown in the fire if not. That's my point. LOL

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

You don't struggle with God's Word because you don't even know it. "Ignorance is bliss" as they say. You rest in ignorance. That's fine, too.

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

She had denied that anyone could lose their first love, but we saw it was possible. That was my point.

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

Christ is the Word. How can we be in Christ but Christ not be in us? "If you abide in Me, and My Words in you"

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

You reject His Word that says some don't abide because they are led away by idols (1 Jn 2:28, 5:21).

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

@mailmandan @Ritajanice @Eternally Grateful I think someone could say that part of "abiding", which is by "obeying" (part of which command is to believe in the Name of God's Son--ie, Jesus means "God is Salvation" or "God saves"), would be believing that Christ saved them, and that they are...

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

Nothing can separate us from the love of God that is "in Christ", but that assumes that we are remaining "in Christ"--and we can know that that is not the case for all, because some are led away by idols (1 Jn 2:28, 5:21).

Revelation 2 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. "Forgive" me for quoting Scripture in a discussion about Scripture!

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

OSAS doesn't necessarily teach against sanctification--that's not my gripe with it.

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

Well, if this means you don't need to abide to have eternal life, the Scripture would not agree.

I invite anyone to read through the discussion and judge for themselves whether you have made a single point that hasn't been soundly refuted.

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

LOL In other words, "The Word of God can only be interpreted in a manner that works for my view--when the allegory works against my view, that is false teaching." Amazing how that works!

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

The reason it is "irrelevant" was already explained: it isn't the end-all be-all. Sure, being born again makes you a branch, but abiding is what is necessary, and that is by continually obeying (1 Jn 3:23,24).

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

Some people don't like it because they read Scripture and don't like it when people want them to veer from Scripture.

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

Branches grow out from a Vine, but they are warned to abide (1 Jn 2:28), not be led away by idols (1 Jn 5:21), but to obey, such that they continue receiving the substance that is in the Vine, which is the eternal life, the Spirit (1 Jn 3:23,24, 5:11); if not, they do not bear fruit and so are...

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

Makes no sense, branches don't appear on any Vine, they issue from the Vine, because they have life, but we see that abiding is by obeying, so, some don't obey, and they are cut off.

Abiding In Christ Necessary for Eternal Life

If He kept us all in the Vine, no branches would be cut off, so, no, this is false.
