Matthew 24:30 may have a significant mistranslation

The Greek word γῆ (gē) has a broad range of meanings—from soil, to land, to the earth as a whole. In Matthew 24:30, πᾶσαι αἱ φυλαὶ τῆς γῆς (“all the tribes of the earth/land”) Some Bible translations render γῆ as “earth” NIV, KJV, ESV, etc. while others render it as “land” ISV, Mace...

Can any of you link or share a good argument against FULL preterism?

Peter states: "Foreseeing that God would set his descendant on the throne, David prophesied of the resurrection." Then Peter states "Jesus was exalted to the right hand". Then Peter states "Jesus was made both Lord and Christ". The evidence points to Peter stating Jesus being exalted to the...

David’s throne — the very one Solomon inherited — was called the throne of the LORD. “Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of David his father.” (1 Chronicles 29:23) Christ fulfilled this typology through His resurrection and ascension to the right hand of God. In...

acts 2:30-36 is Peter’s belief that Jesus being made Lord and Christ through the resurrection and ascension to the right hand fulfilled the davidic oath.

Peter said it was fulfilled in acts 2:30-36. God made an oath to David that one of his descendants would sit on the throne. "Foreseeing this" David prophesied about the resurrection of the Christ and exaltation to the right hand. Jesus' resurrection and ascension to the right hand of God...

I honestly have no idea how any of this relates to what i said.

The New Testament interprets some Old Testament prophecies literally, such as those concerning being pierced (Psalm 22:16; Zechariah 12:10), riding on a donkey (Zechariah 9:9), or the thirty pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12–13). At the same time, it also interprets certain passages...

Not a future seeing Jesus coming guy

Well, the oracle of Zechariah 12–14 was written by an Ancient Near Eastern (ANE) author whose worldview was shaped by Eastern modes of thought. Such writers often expressed truth through block logic—arranging ideas thematically or pictorially rather than in strict sequence. By contrast, you and...

Not a future seeing Jesus coming guy

You seem to be applying literalism to an apocalyptic text. Why would the living waters be symbolic for the spirit but the flow of these living waters to the east and west seas be literal?

Not a future seeing Jesus coming guy

Again, Zechariah 12-14 is one long oracle with multiple “on that day” prophecies throughout it. Some of those “on that day” prophecies are about the crucifixion (Zechariah 12:10, 13:7). So, Is it your position that every single “on that day” prophecy throughout Zechariah 12-14 should be...

Not a future seeing Jesus coming guy

possible, but my point was that no NT passage alludes to Zechariah 14 and then states something along the lines of “and this fulfilled the words of Zechariah”. So any interpretation is subjective, and most likely biased by eschatological framework

I explained that I think the NT reinterprets Jerusalem and the throne of David. I’m interested to see if you disagree with that, and where you the NT claims otherwise - that Jesus must sit on an earthly throne in the literal city of Jerusalem.

Not a future seeing Jesus coming guy

I don’t think I would agree with that logic for two reasons. First, Zechariah 12:10 is said to be fulfilled at the crucifixion in John 19:37. While Revelation 1:7 alludes to the same verse, John 19 presents the actual fulfillment. By analogy, Zechariah 14:8 (“living waters”) seems to find its...

Not a future seeing Jesus coming guy

The scriptures are not a jigsaw puzzle to solve. But if they were this is the most convoluted attempt at fitting together mismatching pieces that I’ve ever seen. None of this is taught in the NT.

Not a future seeing Jesus coming guy

I think the point is that there are no NT passages that quote Zechariah 14 and then use language like “and this fulfilled the words of Zechariah”. So, Objectively, it’s hard to pin down how the NT expects Zechariah 14 to be fulfilled, if at all. You may argue Zechariah 14 is echoed in Jude 1 -...

I think Jesus is presently sitting on the throne of David in Jerusalem. Though I also think: The NT reinterprets Jerusalem under the new covenant (Galatians 4:24-26, Hebrews 12:22-24) the NT also reinterprets the throne of David (acts 2:29-36) under the new covenant.

I don’t think so, but then again, the NT often reinterprets OT passages in unexpected ways. Additionally, the old covenant was completely removed. Therefore, I don’t necessarily agree that those passages are required to have a literal 1:1 fulfillment. But you seem to think they do require...

I think so. I’m not so sure that is the proper conclusion as to how the prophecy was to be fulfilled I’m not so sure that is the proper conclusion as to how the prophecy was to be fulfilled Jesus did stand on the mount of Olives around 2000 years ago. I’m not so sure that is the...

Can any of you link or share a good argument against FULL preterism?

There are no NT passages that specifically claim Zechariah 14 fulfilled, so the argument relies on blanket statements made by the NT about the fulfillment of the OT scriptures: Luke 24:44, acts 3:24, Luke 21:22.

I didn’t make this up out of thin air. The biggest geologist affiliations (GSA, AGU, USGS, IUGS, EGU, AAPG) don’t endorse a global flood, nor flood geology. ignore what? I simply responded to grafted branch’s observation, stating it was interesting. You are the one initially who responded to...
