I don't see scripture as being subject to private interpretation...but the part that I would deem offensive might have to do with the narrowness of the way into the kingdom according to the view presented by most as being the interpretation of this passage.

Ephesians 3:6 teaches that the Gentiles are recipients of the New Covenant. Romans 11:16-24 teaches that the Gentiles were graffed into the church, which is identified as the olive tree, Israel.

I suggest you read the thread that is in progress that I started, Commentary on Romans., to get the answer to this question. However I will say also that 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 is primary.

If you can show me a book in the Bible, with scripture, where confession is emphasized, other than in 1 John, that would help me to see why you think it is such an important issue.
