How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

So then, in my own preaching of the gospel, what is my aim and goal for the person in my audience, if not to produce faith unto salvation? (going on the idea that salvation is unto faith). @Dave L?

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

The response that this conversation is evoking in me is the concept that I cannot save myself; it makes me think of what Jesus said, Whosoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever will lose his life for my sake will find it for life eternal. So it motivates me to want to pour my...

Notice the "?". I'm saying that that is how it should be quoted if what he is saying is right.

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

I am considering this idea that spiritually dead people don't hear spiritually; this would indicate to me that a person cannot have faith unless he is quickened by the Spirit first; since faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of the Lord. So, you are saying that God just reaches down...

Was the jailer saved because he believed in Christ or did he believe in Christ because he was saved?

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

Which begs the question, "How is a man born again?" or, "What must I do to be saved?" I am interested in your answer to this question if the answer is not "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy household." Because doesn't faith come by hearing and hearing by the...

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

I find it in the context, in Galatians 5:16-18, and Romans 8:1-14. There is a dichotomy of flesh and spirit that means that our choices and behaviours are based on one or the other at any given moment.

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

This is why my take on it is that the same heat that melts the wax hardens the clay. And that faith or unbelief is the person's response to hearing the gospel message.

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

Not necessarily. I think that you still have to prove that free will is never a factor in a man's salvation; otherwise the whole world, "all" means all people. "God is not willing that any should perish but that Jew and Gentile alike will be saved." it is not as consistent as you would like...

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

But you said that if I believe it is because I am saved. So then, I can believe but it does not necessarily mean that I am saved, according to your more recent statements. There is inconsistency in your message from what I perceive.

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

In other words, these people believed only for a while; and therefore if their belief was the result of salvation, their salvation did not bring them a lasting faith: this to me appears to be declaring a false doctrine that I recently encountered, that a man can fall away from the faith and will...

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

Yet there are those who believe only for a while (Luke 8:13). Did they believe because they were saved? And if they were saved, did they not lose their salvation when they ceased to believe? Or were they not saved? And if they weren't saved, then their belief was not the result of...

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

Yet Unlimited Atonement is preached elsewhere as far as I can tell. Do you have an answer for 1 John 2:2, 2 Peter 3:9, 1 Timothy 2:3-4 in light of the doctrine of Irresistible Grace?

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

I would have to say that when the Holy Spirit draws a man, He takes him out of his natural mode of thinking so that he can make a choice concerning the things of the Spirit of God. There would have to be a response of some kind of faith in the man in order for him to be able to receive the...

That is an interesting point; I will have to think about that.

How Free Will Destroys the Gospel

The free gift of salvation is given to those who do believe; not to those who cannot believe. We have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand.
