The bible says to flee temptation and resist the devil etc. That is on us, we are not passive but engaged in the battle. And we certainly need to avail ourselves of His help, mortifying the deeds of the body through the Spirit.

No I meant "you" in a generic sense. If anyone tries to help or correct someone who is not being in spirit with the written word, it can sometimes SEEM as though the person trying to help or correct is pitting the Spirit against the word, even though they are not.

Totally agree, there is no competition between the two. But in trying to help someone who is not approaching scripture in the way of the Spirit it will sometimes seem to them as though you are pitting spirit against the written word though. Even though you're not.
