THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT WAS FOR ISRAEL

On the one hand, Moses mostly doesn't apply to us today. On the other hand, Jesus very much applies to us today. If He doesn't, we're all dummies.

THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT WAS FOR ISRAEL

That's one way to disprove it. Jesus literally states the opposite of what Doug said, "My kingdom is not of this world." (John 18)

    Eight objections to evolution

This argument is my pet peeve. Why would we dismiss the entire Bible if we dismissed one book? If we dismissed... Esther... or Obadiah... you wouldn't say we have to get rid of the whole Bible. The same is true for Genesis. Do all the other books rely on Genesis? NO. I know you want to...

What was the mark on Cain?

The "Book of Jasher" we have today isn't the one referred to in the Bible. It was written in 16th-century Spain.

What is the purpose of Grace?

Never even heard of it. I've been reading Ezekiel: 31:3 Behold, the Assyrian [was] a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs. 4 The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers...

What is the purpose of Grace?

Which creation story? Genesis 1 is not an allegory - it's actually about the creation. But it is a poem, and so contains some language that isn't 100% literal. Genesis 2-4 is a mythology by genre, so there are many things there with symbolic meaning. We know this because Ezekiel gives us the...

What is the purpose of Grace?

I think that in some instances, we are meant to take meaning from Scripture that wasn't intended by the original author, and apply it in our lives. This is valid when it comes from being inspired. What we are not meant to do, is to take our own private understanding, and use it to abolish the...

What is the purpose of Grace?

I find the question a little odd. Grace is an attribute of God. It doesn't really require a purpose. Rather, Scripture gives it as the reason that God saves anyone.

The good man that turned bad out of necessity

If he's saying one of the genealogies is Mary's, then Chuck is wrong. This is easy to prove for yourself just by reading the text. I can explain the difference, but I haven't so far because (a) that isn't what this topic is about, and (b) it doesn't seem that you're open to any answer other...

The good man that turned bad out of necessity

This is a common error. I leave it to you to study the subject further, if you wish, though I think the true answer is perhaps challenging to arrive at.

The good man that turned bad out of necessity

I wonder, since you don't believe in a literal Adam & Eve, whether you believe in some figurative interpretation of the story, as I do. If so, I'd be interested in comparing notes.

The good man that turned bad out of necessity

Yeah I think we disagree on this one. The genealogies are problematic, and not only for the fact they don't agree with each other. They also disagree with doctrine throughout the rest of the New Testament.

The good man that turned bad out of necessity

There's an argument among textual critics that the genealogies in Matthew and Luke weren't original to the gospels, but added later.

The good man that turned bad out of necessity

They destroy other bad men. They protect the righteous. Sometimes they even are used to chasten the elect: Isaiah 10:5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation. 6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will...

The good man that turned bad out of necessity

We've had that conversation. As long as we're not trying to call the bad man good, I think we can play nice.

The good man that turned bad out of necessity

I don't see it that way. There are men whose purpose is to build and edify. We call them good. There are men whose talent is to tear down and destroy. We call them bad. But to oppose the bad men in the world, you need another bad man. The gunfighter does what gunfighters do - he kills...

Why Christians not under the Torah

Why does the 1st "day" start 2 1/2 hours in?

Why Christians not under the Torah

A judge, an accuser, the accused, and the testimony of 2 or more witnesses. And a pile of rocks.

Christianity is NOT Derived From Judaism

Agree? That isn't quite what I said. There's a metaphor of "trees = emperors" that runs through the whole Bible. The clearest example comes from Ezekiel, where the Assyrian king is "the tallest tree in Eden" and his people are envisioned taking refuge under his branches. There are several...
