“Your Father is the Devil”: A Radical Reading of John 8:44 in Light of Religious History

Israel disobeyed and they had to deal with the infiltration of pagan culture, including idolatry. Wiping them out would have eliminated those foreign temptations. There were no righteous nations anywhere on earth, so their neighbors could have been anyone and God would order them destroyed...

“Your Father is the Devil”: A Radical Reading of John 8:44 in Light of Religious History

Flesh and blood lineage does not equate to spiritual lineage. Because flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. Cain himself was born from the same mother as Abel. But Cain tended towards unrighteousness, because his spiritual father was Satan.

Is it okay to blame God for stuff that is his fault?

Something similar happened to the prophet who turned back and ate in Bethel against the Lord's command in 1 Kings 13. Except the old prophet did not decieve him with malicious intent. Nevertheless the young prophet died, the Lord sent a lion to kill him.

Is it okay to blame God for stuff that is his fault?

Can't ignore our part in this mess either. And sins tend to have unexpected ramifications. Should we blame God because he gave a command that was ignored? Is it God's responsibility to provide each of us with the pros and cons for obedience?

ARE THEIR TWO CHURCHES OR JUST ONE?

I believe rocky was agreeing with your post and specifically about God not being consigned to one denomination.

Why do some Christians believe that people who commit suicide go to Hell?

All the testimonies I've heard of where people received a visit from Jesus Christ in person was to those on the brink of suicide. So it is rather clear that such visits are an intervention. The repercussions of following through must be very weighty.

ARE THEIR TWO CHURCHES OR JUST ONE?

There is one body according to Ephesians 4:4-6. And from the context I must conclude the text refers to the body of Christ, which is the Church.

    "TIME NO LONGER" (Revelation 10:6)

God may be outside of time, but is this the mystery of God? I'm expecting something more profound, something also beneficial to humanity. Like Jesus serving as the vessel to reconcile the world back to himself. He serves this role in the past, present and future. The past, because Satan was...

    Royal Priests of Eden

But on second thought it may not be the same, as Christ's authority is greater than that of Adam and Eve before the fall. Jesus' authority is over heaven and earth. Adam's authority was merely over the creatures on earth. Jesus is God of the living and the dead. He holds the keys to death and...

    Royal Priests of Eden

I hadn't considered that there may be a connection between the order of Malkizidek and the authority granted to man in the garden. I believe that Malkizidek was granted some degree of prophetic insight into the reign of Christ. Jesus restored authority to man, through his own obedience to God.

    "Before Abraham Was, I AM"

I'm not an expert on what other people believe. It is by definition a carnal way of thinking, because it doesn't consider that our perspective may not represent reality.

    "Before Abraham Was, I AM"

Yes, I believe eternity is inherently timeless. I think most would conceptualize eternity as being within time as we know it, just a very very long time.

    "Before Abraham Was, I AM"

God being outside of time is not a problem, it fits perfectly with how he is described in scripture.

    "Before Abraham Was, I AM"

It originates from problems with the concept of eternity within a timeless existence. If something is truly timeless it should never change. If it does change then both states of being must be valid simultaneously. For example the new heaven is accessable now, to those who believe in Jesus...

    "Before Abraham Was, I AM"

I have an unsubstantiated belief that timelessness is on a scale. At one end of the spectrum is total timelessness, and this is the reality for God. In the middle is time delineated by God speaking. This is what is experienced in heaven, and is the default state for his creation. Each word...

How many former Catholics are here?

Except Apples is not looking to discuss scripture and denominations. But he is trying to Justify himself before his fellow man by diminishing Christianity. And I think he argues that it is hypocritical for Christians to believe they know God's will when they interpret scripture, using the...

How many former Catholics are here?

It is written, "Let God be true and every man a Liar." So it doesn't matter to me what Groups 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 or 10 say. And I don't have to answer to them anyways. But everyone will have to answer to God.

    Respectful Bible burning

I didn't recall feeling any conviction when trashing the NWT version my grandmother was gifted after she died.

    Respectful Bible burning

Some people really have something against receiving something for nothing. Perhaps the Bible being damaged will soften that objection.
