I don't think the Bible is consistent in this regard. Whoever redacted Genesis put together the stories to create a chronology. They intended for us to "do the math" on those genealogies. But if you disregard that late editing... none of the stories in Genesis on its own tries to do that...

That's fair criticism. I DON'T believe ALL the Bible is inspired. I only attribute inspiration to the prophets, gospels, and Psalms. That turns out to be most of the Bible, but still... I'm not sure how you all manage to look at all the Biblical contradictions and still rationalize...
