    How many kingdoms in Daniel?

You feel that this leads to something sort of chaos in interpreting Scripture. I assure you - it doesn't. If someone tries to use Scripture that way, and they are just acting out of their own understanding... it just fails. And then we know that they are full of crap. Actually, this has...

    How many kingdoms in Daniel?

We had a whole topic about this, and then a follow-up topic to that one. Don't remember if you partook, but the posts #1 & #3 contains several examples. Here's an example I had added that topic on a later page (re-post!): There are a lot of these. I could fill more than one page with them...

    How many kingdoms in Daniel?

No offense, but my question wasn't directed at you. I was asking @Brakelite to elaborate on what he wrote.

    How many kingdoms in Daniel?

That's interesting. Can you say a little more? Name names?

    How many kingdoms in Daniel?

Yeah, it is. Prophecies can be re-fulfilled, and this is demonstrated multiple times across the New Testament. The whole book of Matthew is built around the idea of Jesus fulfilling the Old Testament prophecies. Many of them are plucked out of context. Most of them were already fulfilled...

Is the Book of Job in Conflict with the Doctrine of Providence?

I'm not sure if you're open to textural criticism, but the thinking on Job is... that it's a work of multiple authorship. The original text seems to be of Canaanite origin, rather than Israelite. A redaction seems to have been made... by an Edomite, not an Israelite. The redacted portion...

    How many kingdoms in Daniel?

The bit of mine you quoted was about Daniel 11. I know they're pretty close together, but I think Dan 8 is the end of one prophecy and chapter 9 starts a new prophecy. Daniel has several visions throughout those chapters. The symbols from chapter 8 don't necessarily correlate with the symbols...

    Idioms used in the Bible

Here's a funny one... "Cover(ed) your feet" - this means to go to the bathroom 1Sa 24:3 And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave. If you cover your feet with your pants, it's...

    How many kingdoms in Daniel?

Except, it's precisely how Matthew, Mark and Luke interpret Scripture

The changing perception of hell. - How do you define it?

I'm closest to annihilationism, between the three. It seems possible to me that some people merit damnation, while others are annihilated, and others pass on to an eternal reward. You can figure which one's merit damnation pretty easily - they're the Hitlers and Clintons of the world. Which...

Are you sending your neighbors to Hell?

2nd Peter 3:9? The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering like a wild grizzly bear to us-ward, not willing that any should perish survive, but that all should come to repentance. :confused It doesn't seem quite right to me

Should the Gospel of John be removed from the Bible?

If so, they probably haven't studied the history of it. Canonization has mostly been a political process over the centuries. Now who would do such a thing? clfh

Should the Gospel of John be removed from the Bible?

I guess I'm at a point where I don't care much about canon. I do care about inspiration. They aren't the same thing, but the church acts like they are.

Where do people get the spiritual authority?

This... There's no passage that SAYS that. But there are a lot of passages where they DO that.

Where do people get the spiritual authority?

What's not to get? The Apostle Matthew doesn't need to SAY, "it's okay to apply the Bible to your life out-of-context." He just does it himself. By doing it, he sets an example for us. He legitimizes the practice by DOING it.

Should the Gospel of John be removed from the Bible?

"Authentic" was probably a poor word choice on my part. But I am saying that not everything that's been canonized as part of the Bible is inspired. Ironically, my source for that is the Bible. I don't believe it's all inspired and flawless. It's probably worth noting that something doesn't...

Where do people get the spiritual authority?

By EXAMPLE The New Testament authors take the Old Testament out-of-context to apply it to themselves. And not like once or twice; they do it a lot. The main thesis of Matthew's gospel seems to be "how Jesus fulfils the prophets." So then, following their example, we appropriate their...
