John 1:1 - Jesus is the Father or he's not the one true God?

while "overt obnoxiousness might" be a bit overstated, if not colorful. :) I do relate to Romans 7. Paul wasn't exactly enamored with his flesh. I have Christ in me (Col 1:27) and can do everything he did and more (John 14:12). We are told to look at the things above (Col 3:1), so I do. I...

John 1:1 - Jesus is the Father or he's not the one true God?

There is a context when Jesus said, "I am." Jesus asked them who they were looking for. They said Jesus. Jesus simple responded, "ego eimi", which is almost always translated as, "I am he/her." All Jesus said was that he was the one they were looking for. Using that to prove Jesus is God is poor...

    A Form of godliness

That's pretty obvious. Most Christians "know" Jesus is God before ever cracking the book, so they'll find it in there come hell or high water. I've been saying just that for some time now. Never mind the many clear verses that make a clear distinction between God and His son. Somehow (never...

Well, half an agreement is better than none! I understand what you are saying. I just think Jesus being God is a given to trinitarians (or those who believe Jesus is God) and then it is "found" in the scriptures. There is nary a scholar, trinitarian included, that will not readily admit that...

    A Form of godliness

I think you can understand that the folks who lived 3,000 years ago in a culture radically different (Ancient Near East) than our Modern West might think differently, that their world view might be quite different than our own. The ancient Near East Jew looked at a word and thought one thing...

John 1:1 - Jesus is the Father or he's not the one true God?

Son of God! What's not to love! All of our bodies are vile and they'll stay that was until Jesus comes back and gives us a new one. Phil 3:20-21, 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it...

Then you should know there are many people with the "el" as part of their name. A name is an abstract representation of a concrete person. While a parent might hope their child would live up to a name with "el" in it, i.e., be a godly child, it in no way defined the nature of that child. Not...

    A Form of godliness

Is there a reason you can't look it up yourself? If so, I'll be glad to help, but it would be better if you did it yourself. It'd be a good application of 2 Tim 2:15 for you. I don't know you very well, but you do seem to be able enough to do that.

John 1:1 - Jesus is the Father or he's not the one true God?

True enough! But how does He give to us? Through His son. Rom 3:24, Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: I've said a few times now that the word "through" indicates agency and that an agent is not the principle who sent him. True or false...

    A Form of godliness

Maybe you haven't read the OT or the NT? Mathew is an OT quote. Did Joseph and Mary name him Jesus or Emanuel? In any case, a name does not make the one named that name. Living near the Southern border, I not infrequently run into someone name Jesus. None are my savior though.

Lookup all the usages of the word "Elhoiym" in the OT. You will find several gods called Elhoiym. They are all single entities.

John 1:1 - Jesus is the Father or he's not the one true God?

My Bible is consistent in call Jesus the son of God. God is the Father. Jesus is His son. Only the Father is God (1 Cor 8:6). How Yes. No.

    A Form of godliness

God was made better than than the angels? Who made Him that way? And who appointed God heir of all things? Who was the express image of who? God is the express image of God? Whose right hand did God sit on? God inherited a more excellent that the angels? What was He before He inherited it...

John 1:1 - Jesus is the Father or he's not the one true God?

No comment about John's explicit purpose on writing his Gospel? John 20:30-31, 30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that...

John 1:1 - Jesus is the Father or he's not the one true God?

Interlinear is not a language. It is actually a Biblical text that shows the English and Greek/Hebrew words used in each verse. They can be found on the internet. I trust you know that John did not speak English. The language of the day was in fact Greek. John wrote his Gospel in the Greek...

I don't recall saying anything about where you are or where you are going. Frankly, I'm getting bored talking about you and myself. I'd really like to stick with the scriptures. This is a debate forum, not a bash fest. God made the comparison! Gen 41:40, Thou (Joseph) shalt be over my house...

    A Form of godliness

Before going off too much on that, you may want to consider that trinitarians call God an "essence." Hardly personal. It reduces God to a thing. But leaving that aside, the logos is really not a person. It is an inanimate thing. Did you not read the Strong's definition? In case you missed it...

    A Form of godliness

Yes! Good observation! Few Christians are aware of a new creation, but it's all over the place in Paul's letters. God didn't stop creating in Genesis. Romans 8:29 says we are being conformed to the image of God's son. "Conformed" comes from the same root word as "form" in Phillipians 2:6 and...
