I don't have a hard answer for this - the chapter is full of symbols. As I read it, 144,000 just seems to mean "everyone." If that's right, then some of them are saints of days past, while others were still future at the time it was written.

So, all those verses had an initial fulfillment that was during the original prophet's lifetime or very shortly thereafter. If this were not true, they would be false prophets. Most of them also had another fulfillment in 70 AD or 135 AD (the Romans destroyed Jerusalem in both those years)...
