Has the church got Genesis all wrong?

Can you expand on this? I've read somewhat on the religion of Egypt/Kemet and Nubia and Kush, and I didn't identify much of anything in common with the Bible?

Has the church got Genesis all wrong?

This is explicit in the Bible. No quarrels from me. The hypothesis that Moses' source material came from the Edomites/Kenites (which is not my idea) is based on critical analysis of the text of Genesis paired with history, archaeology and comparative religion studies. In the Bible, there is...

    My take on original sin

You don't need a verse for the meaning of an English word. The tool for that is a dictionary. If it meant immortality PLUS invulnerability, it would say so.

"Righteous Noah, are we like him?" (Genesis 6:22-11:32)

You know what I find interesting? The language describing the flood is very similar to the language describing the creation. It seems like the story is an undoing of the creation, and then a re-creation.

What's up with Mathew and Lukes genealogies of Jesus? Why are they so different?

Paul says in two places that genealogies aren't important (1Timothy 1:4, Titus 3:9). One of Jesus' major doctrinal points was that a man's heredity is proven by his actions (John 8), and the true children of Abraham are the ones who act like Abraham. So, if genealogies are unimportant and...

Has the church got Genesis all wrong?

I'm not Rella, but... they aren't the same, and they both claim to trace Jesus' lineage through Joseph. Additionally, Matthew uses a series of names that look very suspicious... he basically re-iterates the names of the patriarchs in the generations just before Jesus. Matthew's genealogy seems...

    A God of Hate

There's a little more to it than that. In Genesis, Ham's son Canaan is cursed. For the most part, the people that were marked for extermination in the books that come later are the descendants of Canaan. This seems to be the fulfillment of the curse.

Has the church got Genesis all wrong?

I'm sorry to hear it. I do strive to speak plainly. I feel an obligation to respond in topics that I've started. shrug

Has the church got Genesis all wrong?

Sarcasm, eh. This is not the "got 'im" that you think it is. I literally said this in my last post. You seem to have a problem with me. I would invite you to use the forum's block function if that's the case. You aren't actually interacting anyway, just repeating yourself at this point...

Has the church got Genesis all wrong?

Haha it's more like the red herring. We can't stop talking about this but it isn't actually that important. The point is that Genesis is a compilation of works and they aren't necessarily in chronological order!

Has the church got Genesis all wrong?

It's a mysterious verse. Did Paul know Enoch? probably not... some people think Paul was talking about himself, his own vision. I don't think anybody knows for sure.

Has the church got Genesis all wrong?

Yes, Jude 1 quotes from the pseudepigraphal book of Enoch, which tells all about Enoch ascending to the third heaven and being given a tour of the heavens, and some prophecies. Jesus is The Word and existed in the beginning. (John 1:1) Yes, the Word of the Lord came to many of the Old...

Since more children and people have been killed by Israel than in the terrorist attack, should they stop?

You're basically just saying you want to pick and choose which parts of the Bible to keep and which to discard.

Since more children and people have been killed by Israel than in the terrorist attack, should they stop?

If you get rid of the Old Testament, you also get rid of the Jewish claim on that land. Sure you wanna dismiss all that?

Since more children and people have been killed by Israel than in the terrorist attack, should they stop?

So, if Israel was in a state of belief... then genocide would be justified? Is that really the argument here?

Since more children and people have been killed by Israel than in the terrorist attack, should they stop?

Nobody has said the uncomfortable thing? The elephant in the room? What did God command the Israelites to do with the Philistines and Canaanites in the land of Israel? o_O

Has the church got Genesis all wrong?

There is some wild stuff in there that seems impossible... One verse mentions unicorns in the KJV. The demon Lilith appears in another verse. But then there's other stuff that seems entirely plausible. Like, the Dead Sea does generate bitumen ("pitch") which washes ashore there already. The...
