@Lifelong_sinner It was really about a whole way of doing theology. If it was about preaching and teaching Scripture truth both to the lost and to believers seeking to grow in the Lord, then I don't see how Aquinas and the like can be much help.

@MatthewG I do think that interest in prayer and the Scriptures can be a barometer to someone's spiritual state: if there is really no interest, then the Lord may not be working in them, whatever they may profess.

@MatthewG I do think verse 23 of Matthew 13 corresponds to the true believer's experience: the good ground, which receives the Word which takes root and is not plucked up or stifled.

@MatthewG Yes, for a young man I guess they are a bit like the equivalent of cuff-links: a pair of rugged, manly ear studs can make a good b-day gift at around 18 from parents to a young man. (The young women of course tend often to go for the bigger hoops, etc.)

@Lifelong_sinner Such theology can indeed be profitable, but I do think care needs to be taken not to become so accustomed to academic theology that terminology drives the proof from Scripture, rather than the other way around.
