Well, it's good read the passage in John 6. Yes, we have a conscience (Hebrews 9.14) and yes we do depend on God's grace.

@Corlove13 Acts 2.41 clearly shows that it was those who gladly received his word - i.e., who believed it - were baptized; it wasn't in some (vain?) attempt to become believers that they were baptized; they were clearly believers already.

@Mayflower Interesting - and vital - how both Paul and John use the theme of light in Ephesians, and in John's Gospel and John's First Epistle, (as well as it occurring in Scripture elsewhere).

@Naomi25 Suggestion: One figure of speech using the word 1000 does not prove a figure of speech at every use of the word 1000; rather, context plays a part.

Acts 2.42 is a good reference...
