They are meaningless with regards to being born again. THe Church can't save you. The cookie and the juice can't save you. And water baptism can't save you.

They were born again when God accepted their Faith, washed them in the blood of Jesus, and gave them the new birth. Same as everyone who is saved. Water does not have any part in Salvation.
