Going back to New Testament times, continuing in the Apostles' doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer were all linked and formed very much a norm for Christians in a locality who regularly met together.

I do also think that the idea of static weather in the past is a comforting idea to some, but it's also ultimately an illusion.
