Jesus is the Son of his God

Given that you’ve said that you aren’t a trinitarian - Post in thread 'Jesus submitted to his God' Jesus submitted to his God - what does that say about the Nicene Creed?

Jesus is the Son of his God

Yes. Why did they do that?

Jesus is the Son of his God

That’s right. Unbelieving Israel vs. believing Israel. It was in the days of Jesus and the apostles. The church moved away from it. That is what the A.E. Harvey quote that I shared with you is about. The church gradually moved away from the monotheism of Israel. (Dr. Brown’s book Heresies is...

Jesus is the Son of his God

That’s right. It’s not poor English. It’s recognition that John is speaking in his prologue about God speaking the creation into existence. The same God who did that is at work in the new creation.

    Not all Israel.

Jesus is the Son of his God

Everywhere else Moses gave us the singular personal pronouns that represent God, elohim. What do you do with those?

Jesus is the Son of his God

God (singular) is speaking to his heavenly court. I don’t reject Moses. The translators don’t reject Moses. God is singular.

Jesus is the Son of his God

Do you reject the Apostles’ Creed? I still don’t understand why you say God is plural and write it as singular. I’d like to hear your explanation.

    Jesus submitted to his God

I don’t hold that against you. There are a lot of “Christian” members here who aren’t trinitarian. The trinitarians say the same thing. Right? Psalm 110:1 makes a distinction between the Messiah and Yahweh. Jesus is the Messiah. I call upon the name of the Messiah.

Jesus is the Son of his God

It’s the absolute truth. Every Bible translator knows that it is and translates it properly.

Jesus is the Son of his God

It’s the Messiah’s God. It’s the first line of the Apostles’ Creed. It’s scripture. It comes from the Hebrew Bible. It is the scripture of Jewish monotheists. Why do you write “God” in the singular form rather than in the plural form?

Jesus is the Son of his God

    It’s basic Hebrew.

    Jesus submitted to his God

I’m an ex-trinitarian and, among other things, a retired adjunct college professor of theology. I taught it to my students.

Jesus is the Son of his God

“In later times the church, no longer perceiving the power and decisiveness of the agent-son-representative model, and having among its members men used to a more philosophical analysis, felt it necessary to go further in the direction of metaphysical identity between Jesus and the heavenly...

It's October: What's your favorite horror movies?

I dare you to watch this one alone in the dark - I have to give the bird two thumbs up for attacking the UN building.

Jesus is the Son of his God

Every English translation of John’s prologue produced prior to 1611 that was made directly from Greek is rendered in the same fashion. The word is “it”. Jesus isn’t an it. In the prologue, John is speaking about the Father speaking the creation into existence. Everything which was created...
