John 3 Jesus discussion with Nicodemus

If we look at the disciples and their journey, we see that they were believers following Christ. Very poorly though, they barely understood Him at times, and would quarrel amongst themselves. Then when He had arisen, He came to them and breathed on them the Holy Spirit. This changed things...

John 3 Jesus discussion with Nicodemus

It does not say for forgiveness. It is for cleansing. They could be forgiven but not holy.

John 3 Jesus discussion with Nicodemus

Maybe the shedding of blood was on top of the death of Christ. He died for our sins but shed His blood for our holiness.

John 3 Jesus discussion with Nicodemus

Ah now we get into who the Atonement was for. I am still getting this straight after believing the conventional view for a long time. The blood was taken into the Holy of Holies correct? So it was for holiness. Is the blood required for forgiveness?

John 3 Jesus discussion with Nicodemus

Yes I do understand the Reformed position on this as I am an exCalvinist. The words you quote are correct but taken out of context. Scripture must be discerned regarding which stage believers are in. Deterministic theology was fought against till Augustine came along and poisoned the church.

John 3 Jesus discussion with Nicodemus

We must first of all learn just how corrupt we are to put Christ back on the cross for us. That should humble us enough. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to bring us to this point. If we do not quench the Spirit we are given a pure heart from then on to serve the Lord in all righteousness.

John 3 Jesus discussion with Nicodemus

At that point, we receive forgiveness for past sin and are clean but very soon we compromise with sin ands fall from that first state of absolute love for Christ.

John 3 Jesus discussion with Nicodemus

Giving up our independence is not works. Making a commitment to obey Christ immediately the Spirit leads is losing our life. He makes the decisions from then on. The Jew confessed their sins.

John 3 Jesus discussion with Nicodemus

I received the Spirit originally but later was baptized in Him the Holy Spirit who makes us holy.

A little something I wrote earlier Deification in the Early Church In the introduction to The Study of Holiness from the Early Church Fathers by J. B. Galloway(Wipf and Stock Publishers, 2014), we read: “If the teachings of the modern holiness movement are correct concerning the doctrine of...

John 3 Jesus discussion with Nicodemus

To me it's the transaction between us and God to be admitted to the 'higher walk' or whatever which is in the words of scripture consenting to crucified with Christ or losing our lives totally so that we do whatsoever Christ requires of us, which is not required for entry into the first stage...
