    Stumbling Block verses

For a propitiation in redeeming us back from the god of this world. We are freed...as a creation...from being under the bondage of the devil to being free to now come under grace. Just as the sin of Adam put us under the dominion of the devil...so the does the payment of a perfect life redeem...

    Stumbling Block verses

Jesus said that statement while He was still alive. And He is still alive today. The word "shed" is a translation of a Greek word... κχέω, ἐκχύνω ekcheō ekchunō ek-kheh'-o, ek-khoo'-no From G1537 and χέω cheō (to pour); to pour forth; figuratively to bestow: - gush (pour) out, run...

The kingdom of God is like...

There is also the idea of new wine in old wineskins. The new wine makes the old wineskins burst. Jesus was preaching the new and living way of the kingdom life. So when the new wine is poured into new wineskins (hearts)...both are preserved.

The kingdom of God is like...

The way I see this is that God is a God of covenant. We broke the covenant in that we had no power to stop sinning under the law. However under grace, with the justification of life, we now can keep the covenant through His life in us.

The kingdom of God is like...

.................a net! The kingdom of God is like a net. But unlike a regular fishing net it just catches the smallest fish. The big ones just bounce off. Saul of Tarsus sought to enter into the kingdom...to win Christ. So he made himself as small as he could in order to enter in. Even his...

The Golden Rule not applicable to Christ or those who follow him.

Loving others as ourselves is at the righteousness level. The level of what is humanly possible. The minimum standard. On the holiness level this becomes love others as I have loved you. They who are in Christ love as Jesus loves.

Are Christians to forgive everyone or only those who repent?

Are we to love only they who love us? Are we not to forgive and love pre-emptively? Jesus said...forgive them...they know not what they do. Stephen was of the same mind.
  8. Episkopos

Forsake ALL your sins or eternal damnation awaits!

Well...not exactly as Jesus taught. Jesus taught of a whole different way of life...a kingdom life...using stories to convey the parameters of that life. Being familiar with people and staring them down is not Jesus' style. Jesus was always gentle except when religious people came on the scene...

    Stumbling Block verses

I saw it as the way people misinterpret the bible to include themselves based on a faulty reading of the text.

    Stumbling Block verses

And when you try to close the loophole...accusations of inventing a new theology arise. Strange how everything gets turned upside down like that. :)

    Stumbling Block verses

Good one John! The blood of Jesus is alive..like His Spirit. In fact these ARE THE SAME. And check out the word remission...it is actually freedom from sin.
  12. Episkopos

    Stumbling Block verses

But people are not looking for freedom from sin...they rather seek an immunity from judgment for sin. The biblical verses concerning Jesus' sacrifice are rendered to mean that very thing. Eisegesis...
  13. Episkopos

    Stumbling Block verses

If someone hits you for no reason...you are bearing their sin on your body. That's what happened to Jesus. He took all the evil we could dish out on Himself. He took our ignorance, intolerance, cruelty, injustice...etc... all these are marked on His body. I'm sure you see it as something...

    Stumbling Block verses

Not on Jesus... John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. But on us...we were married to the old nature...and under the power of sin...which is the reigning force of the devil. We were in darkness...and the king of darkness...

    Stumbling Block verses

Out from the bondage of sin. And whoever sins is a slave of sin....and the devil. If I want to purchase...say, a classic car, in order to free it from a "bad owner" so to speak...I pay the price to redeem it from the old owner. Then the old owner has no more authority and the car is now in my...

    Stumbling Block verses

Yes...but many believe that we have been redeemed away from an angry God. That Jesus had to die to buy us away from a hateful God. Actually an angry god....the god of this world. God is love.

    Stumbling Block verses

I know the truth upsets man-made theologies. It seems that very basic truth is so strange sounding to they who have become accustomed to eating at the table of human traditions that good is seen as evil and evil as good. Same as it ever was. The irony is that you don't see what side of history...

    Stumbling Block verses

So then who did Jesus purchase, with His blood, His church from? (and all creation)... from whom are we redeemed from? A- the ruler of this world? B- the living God?
  19. Episkopos

    Stumbling Block verses

This is not correct if you mean that He was our personal sacrifice. Jesus took on our sinfulness and evil upon Himself. Jesus suffered and died based on what we consider as peace. We do things in error. We do things backwardly...self-interestedly. But the death of Jesus purchased God's...

    Stumbling Block verses

That's exactly what I'm doing...placing the meaning of all the verses in the light of the Spirit AND all the other verses in the bible. So I'm doing double duty here. But if you mean in the context of what is best for the self-interest of men...I reject that context.
