You don't take v18 to mean some will be saved? Oy vey!

Not too humble.

I'm sorry but that is not true. You answered a different question that you must have thought took >12 paragraphs. LOL

Joe, Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems you are invoking this verse to support universalism, AS IF God’s desire is no one shall perish means no one will perish. Is that right? Peter

How do you reconcile v17, that Jesus did not come to condemn the world with v18, some are already condemned for what they don’t believe?

Honestly, this is not the point of the thread - and I think you know that. I have a high post count because I tend to write short posts on point. I seldom read >12 paragraph posts.

Regarding ‘formed’ gods; YHWH is unique in the pantheon of gods in that he is eternal. To understand this verse, you need to correct the understanding of the word ‘god’ to align with the existence of many god who are prevalent in being formed. Too many imbue the word incorrectly to only mean...

This verse re-asserts YHWH (aka God the Father) is the only God. From REV translation: You are my witnesses,”says Yahweh, “and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am he. Before me there was no God formed, nor will there be after me.

Colossians 3:12 points out that we too are chosen by God. John 1:12 says that we too are sons and daughters of God. So, while Jesus was the only son of God, as all firstborns are, he is no longer the only son of God. There is a vid that expands on this. I might be able to dig it up if...

I confess this OP is a challenge to our humility. Have we turned our Lord into an IDOL by holding fast to manmade doctrines that cannot withstand scrutiny? Our Lord and Savior is a man, not a doctrinal idol, yes? Most people, including Christians are exceedingly weak in logic. In this thread, I...

Do you believe that Mark was the scribe and it is actually Peter's account? I only learned that fairly recently in my life.

I've been told Luke is the best one to start with, in general. This especially true for people who are not so familiar with the Jewish culture, which is most people in America today.

I agree this is the best argument and it shows how weak the argument is since it relies on the strongest evidence AGAINST the premise, the heresy, the 4th century manmade IDOL. Jesus is quoted in John 17:1-3 as saying his Father is the only true God. I agree with Jesus. And this is one of many...

Purpose. I am a big picture thinker. A coworker too easily gets lost in the weeds. Everything he says is accurate, just not necessarily relevant to the bigger conversation. Hope this helps.

No worries, my friend. I don't think it is a contradiction at all but a matter of how different people tell a story and what they focus on. If I were to tell the story of my life, I might say I went to college after graduating from high school, bought a house after my daughter was born or that...

Triple down. You are not very intellectually nimble are you?

I've been wondering what the CyB community feels is their favorite Gospel - and why. For most of my life, my favorite was Matthew. When I began to read the Bible daily, I picked Luke for its non-Jewish orientation. Lately, I've come to apreciate the active Gospel of Mark. When I read John, I...

He lived about 15 centuries after the church fathers, no?

Well, obviously you are doubling down on what is not the case. Just out of curiosity, how does this affect how you life out a life devoted to Christ?

Let's take a look 7For the Son of Man is about to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. 28Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will absolutely not taste of death until they see the Son...
