Did God approve or disapprove of the Jewish temple?

Obviously nobody's behavior is perfect except Jesus, but... When a prophet is prophesying, they are delivering a message from God. Since it comes from God rather than the prophet, that ought to be infallible. I am fairly sure the early church saw it that way.

Did God approve or disapprove of the Jewish temple?

I agree there are symbols there, but... didn't the tabernacle already contain all the same symbols? And what do you do with the verses that say God did not want the temple and the sacrifices?

Did God approve or disapprove of the Jewish temple?

Interesting. So, God effectively quarantined the practice of blood sacrifices to a small area? Well... God gave Moses' Israel several commands that don't seem to have been the best. They asked for kings, and He granted it even though it wasn't good, calling them a punishment. After they made...

Did God approve or disapprove of the Jewish temple?

I sort of agree - I don't find every letter of Scripture to be without errors. I am slightly taken aback that, where the prophets seemingly disagree with the history, you side with the history. The prophets seem more reliable to me.

Did God approve or disapprove of the Jewish temple?

Interesting. What do you make of Stephen's comments in Acts 7?

Did God approve or disapprove of the Jewish temple?

Wow, we see things very differently. I see the prophets as being inspired by God and inerrant. I'm not sure the books of history are inspired or inerrant. They certainly don't claim it for themselves.

Did God approve or disapprove of the Jewish temple?

This arose out of the discussion in another topic, where I said that the Bible is a little confusing where it comes to the Jewish temple. The histories record the temple as being glorious, and in them God indwells it and apparently approves of it. For instance: And it came to pass, after the...

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

I can't just find something canonical. I don't have the authority of a church synod (yet... mwahahaha) But I've moved from "not an inspired book" to "possibly an inspired book." I read it long ago, and I skimmed through the book for this conversation, but I probably need to read it more fully.

When Did Jesus Go to Egypt?

There are some contradictions in the Bible, but I don't see one here. The Bible doesn't put a time-frame on the Magi's visit that's within the first 8 days of Jesus' life.

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

The Bible is a little confusing where it comes to the Jewish temple. The histories record the temple(s) as being glorious, and God indwells them and approves them. But some of the prophets and particularly the martyr Stephen seem to say that God never wanted a man-made temple at all. Barnabas...

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

Honestly, that's pretty compelling, being just a few lines down in the same chapter. I remain a little confused on how the fulfillment works. The one who pulled down the former temple is supposed to rebuild it. That makes me think Romans or maybe the Zealots. Obviously neither rebuilt a...

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

It's in chapter 16: The first 2 verses are no problem. They mirror Stephen's testimony in Acts 7 where he says that God didn't want or need a temple. Verse 3 is weird. It appears to quote Scripture, except that there is no comparable phrase in any book that I can find. I have no idea what...

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

The Epistle of Barnabas isn't canon, but I guess the question is whether it ought to be? I will say... a case CAN be made for it. It purports to be written by an apostle. That's one of the main criteria used for commending books as canonical. It seems to be written at a genuinely early date...

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

No, I'm not speculating. I am regurgitating what I've read in Ante-Nicene Fathers. That's a set of hardcopy books I own, so I can't exactly link you to them, but you can buy a set of your own. The thing to pay attention to are the introductions to each book, where Biblical scholars talk about...

Do the Ten Commandments still apply under the new covenant today?

I still think what's right has always been right, even before Sinai. Most of the commandments God gave Moses existed before that. The prohibition on murder goes back to Noah. The Assyrians began practicing Sabbath nearly 1000 years before Moses was even born. Near as I can tell, half of the...

It's the first translation on the page I linked. Tbh, I provided the link so that curious readers could actually see the text.

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

I'm proficient at Internet "research," but most of your points seem to be dead wrong. I'll be happy to break it down for you. The idea that the apostles advised on canonicity is anachronistic. The idea of canonicity didn't even exist within any of their lifetimes, so they definitely didn't...

Do the Ten Commandments still apply under the new covenant today?

I think people get a little tripped up on Moses giving the commandments to Israel, and in the New vs Old covenants. What's right is right. These were all just laws before Moses, in Abraham's day, and remain so in perpetuity.

    So many unsupported statements. Sources?

The Church decided the canon. How do you know you have the correct canon?

Certainly not. Inspiration is far more important than canonization. Seems like a question of Lingua Franca... depending where you are, they may be the same thing or totally different. Really? Catholics where I live tend to be better educated in their beliefs than Protestants. Perhaps...
