Did Jesus need a redeemer? Or was He The Redeemer?

Hi there veteran, Thanks for this. Yes I would certainly agree its an old idea, and I believe a very scriptural one. It seems to me that we have verses all over the scripture that demonstrate that the resurrection will be of our literal body which will then be changed 'in the twinkling of an...

Did Jesus need a redeemer? Or was He The Redeemer?

Amen. When Jesus was in the grave he was alive in the same sense that Abraham was when Jesus said: Matthew 22 (ESV) 31 And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not...

    John 17

Hi Robbie, Yes a very powerful section of scripture... John 17:3 particularly. Are you willing to expand on what false teachings John 17 in your view crushes?

Did Jesus need a redeemer? Or was He The Redeemer?

Hi Robbie, I think the issue might be that the word 'spiritually' is a little ambiguous in this context. If you were to say this however: Jesus died physically and in so doing was cut off from the Father for a time for our sins (Key point being ours and not His.. He's Holy) before He was...

    Combining Posts Problem

Hi there, I seem to have a problem when I want to respond to multiple posts. I'd like to respond in separate posts, but if I complete the posts one after another, the board seems to automatically merge my reply with the previous... It's frustrating. Is there a simple way to ensure this does...

Did Jesus need a redeemer? Or was He The Redeemer?

Wow. Thanks Martin. Yes I think you have great points here. I think we can certainly establish from scripture that our sins (i.e. transgressions) separate us from God. It seems to me however, that our nature, though mortal and separate from God in the sense that He is immortal does not morally...

The Appendices to the Book of Judges (Judges 17-21)

The Levite's Story - Post 18 Although it is stated that ‘all the tribes’ were represented at the great gathering in Mizpah, it is obvious that one tribe was excepted. Benjamin had not responded to the summons. Intelligence had reached Benjamin of the gathering forces and Judges 20:3 informs...

Thanks rocky. Just shows that the Gentile haven't been much better in responding to the pearl of great price than the Jews.

Did Jesus need a redeemer? Or was He The Redeemer?

Hi Robbie, I was quoting from Psalm 16, but yes you are right. It's curious, the translators of the ESV I'm currently referring to have put 'holy one' in Psalm 16 and 'Holy One' in Acts 2. It would have been a good one to be consistent on.

    Rape, Murder and Dismemberment

Hi Alethos, [color="#000000"] Yes I agree that God deserves our gratitude for preserving a record of human nature 'warts and all' in the scriptures. [color="#000000"] Yes re Benjamin. he phrase ‘abomination’ (zimmâ) and ‘outrage’ (nĕbālâ) used in the Levites speech in chapter 20 are used...

Did Jesus need a redeemer? Or was He The Redeemer?

Ducky, are you saying that when it speaks of redeeming in scripture it is only ever speaking of redeeming from sins? It seems to me that redemption can be from a number of things and the context will determine what it is. I'm certainly not suggesting that Jesus needed redeeming from sin and...

Did Jesus need a redeemer? Or was He The Redeemer?

It seems to me that the scriptures portray Christ as both redeemer and redeemed. He is the one whose sacrifice provided us a means by which we could be redeemed from sin and death. (Galatians 3:13, Luke 1:68) However, he needed redemption from death and cried out to God for such. We have this...

I appreciate your passion. I get it. However, rest easy... 'Truth will always out in the end' As you say, you've been studying this subject for many years and maybe you see conclusions as a result that nauseate you. Maybe you need to sit back and allow others to become nauseated by going...

    Romans 6:9-11

Thanks for that Ducky. I do 'get' what you're saying here. However, I respectfully suggest that these quotes do not help in proving that Alethos' position is that Jesus is a 'sinner'. I get why you are saying that, but as I read these lines this is what I am seeing: Alethos is saying that...

    Sin & Death

Hi Ducky, I respectfully submit that its not that simple. You are correct that we are sinners, but it is a logical fallacy to argue: We are sinners + Jesus shared our nature = Jesus is also a sinner. If I read the thread correctly, this is not the position that is being advanced.

    Romans 6:9-11

Thanks for saying that Martin. I agree. I also think that Alethos' views might be more nuanced than what they are being characterised as. Ducky, may I suggest you start a new thread in which you highlight the alleged heresy and rebut with scriptures you deem as relevant. This would allow...

The Appendices to the Book of Judges (Judges 17-21)

The Muster of the Tribes - Post 17 It was a spirit of righteous indignation that quickened the step of the marching footmen that were converging on the city of Mizpah. The great muster of the tribes was underway. Never in its short history had the nation of Israel been so united in a cause...
