Putin is on a suicide mission right now. He will not stop unless someone stops him. Europe is sending long range missiles to Ukraine as we speak. Russia is about to have war inside Russia. Your prime minister is wanting to side with Europe for defense and Canada might get sucked into a war, and Russia is very close you.. Canada better side with USA who is close by and much, much more powerful. Politics make strange bedfellows, but common sense better prevail over stupid is as stupid does.
I don't think history supports that view. There have been a great many things touted as fringe conspiracy theory by the mainstream news (all using the same scripts) that have later been shown completely true. And it continues.

It will never happen, most of Ukraine is west leaning. Between Europe and Ukraine, the war is moving into Russia territory.
That would be a big mistake.
Straight thinking people would avoid that situation.
Nato's leader Mark Rutten is a warmonger.
When Putin is pushed into a corner he would use Nuclear force.
And in case this mistake would happen China will attack Taiwan.
