In my view there's a holy mandate to say this, despite any ensuing enmity. From the time probably before Joshua at least, the prophets did declare that God's people, turn back (Acts 3:19; Acts 3:21; Joshua 8:31), not from, to former ways.
Adam fell 3 times in the garden. Transgression when he ate. Neglect of duty when they sewed fig leaves. Corruption when they hid among the trees. The garden (assigned) deprecated; and today, earth is an awful place for the same awful pattern.
Jeremiah said it best I think: "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein." 6:16
