I had a question- I almost never have felt God lead me to do anything, it has never happened even once. I want to pray for people, want to do things for Christ, but I never feel led ever, what should I do? If God does not tell me what to do should I just do something? Should I just guess what He wants? This problem is so bad I can't function, If God doesn't lead me I am completely lost.

My approach to life is to pray and ask God to lead and guide me, then step out in faith doing the best I can. If we make mistakes, remember God's mercy "endureth forever".

A well known saying is that the only person who never makes mistakes is the person who never does anything.

It helps to examine our motives for any course of action, but acting on faith that God hears and answers our prayers for guidance - and our prayers for Him to correct us if we take a wrong turn - is the best way to find the will of God for our lives.

Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.
Why is this? How is it a blessing? Because God is showing them the great favor of leading them by a very safe way whereby they learn to firmly trust despite not seeing. They grow at first in a way that is not perceived by them which begins to calm their flesh and anxieties and they can rest in Him without that stirring up of their flesh in excitements. He desires to give them this gift of rest and it is calm and peaceful as He asks for them to do nothing but to trust completely that He is guiding and to just keep returning to calm rest whenever their flesh begins to try to bring them to anxious worry. They learn to say, I can’t perceive you right now but I trust You completely to do in me what You desire.
You are actually being shown great favor.

Yeah, that's what my boss on my first job told me - in language that would earn me a rebuke from the admins on this forum if I repeated it here.

This falls in the category of knowing what God's will for your life is. We had an interesting discussion about this once in our Bible study class. Here's a brief synopsis:
  • Look around your world and see what needs doing.
  • Understand the scriptures so you know what things God approves of. And what things He does not.
  • Bounce ideas off some trusted and mature brothers and sisters in Christ.
  • Realistically assess what you can and can't do with the skills and resources you have available.
  • Pray about it.
  • Don't be afraid to try things. Step out in faith, even though you don't KNOW if this is what God has in mind.
  • Don't be afraid to fail.
    • I think God would prefer you try and fail rather than not doing anything out of fear of failure. (I would cite the Parable of the Talents here.) Isn't that what Faith is?
    • Sometimes failure is an indication you're on the wrong path. Sometimes failure is just a problem that needs to be overcome. Be discerning as to which applies to your situation if (when) it happens..
    • And trust God in both failure and success.
  • Sometimes God's desire is for us to just act faithfully in ordinary things right where we are. A helping hand here, an encouraging word there... "He who is faithful in little will also be faithful in much." (Luke 16:10.) I emphasize this because I think it's important.
