The depth of understanding and revelation knowledge in the understanding that when you received Jesus Christ as your Savior you received all of God at that moment. You can grow in understanding of the moment and come into revelation of the moment and see Christ as everything, but you cannot get anymore of God than when you first believed. I say it like that because I use to say "if anyone needs more of God come down and receive what He has for you." Get a fresh infilling is another term preachers use. I get the motive behind that kind of thinking but it doesn't change the fact you and l received all of God when you received Him.
In soul yes but not in spirit. Spirit is what we need to see and learn first because our soul growth depends on it. Remember to start right and in starting right you will have to start with spirit and all it has and is. Knowing who you are has to do with spirit. You cannot know who you are until you see spirit completion. Knowing who you are is the key to christianity, knowledge, knowers. Knowers are individuals who have come to see who they are in spirit (Christ persons, known as Christians, Christ-ians) and give themselves to understanding what it means to be a christian.
A Christ person is a person with Christ in them and they know it. Literally know it; none of the "well maybe this born again stuff I just don't know and I'm having a hard time putting it all together, what do you believe-what do you think-I think." Boom it's over, you know nothing as far as being a christian. Your understanding is locked into not knowing at that moment and then the schoolhouse has to get me back in line, I need more teaching because I don't know anything. Don't feel bad most go through it but you need to go through it if it happens, don't stay in it go through it. Get it over with and move on and get some understanding. We have to get understanding so we can keep moving into the things of God, the things He has prepared for us. Very plain and and very simple. Anyone that says I just don't know; is not waiting on the Lord. You have to wait on the Lord, no getting around it or you stay a spiritual dummy.
We are the ones that make it complex, it is not that complex. We can write a 10 page essay on why you should believe or fast and pray, or pray fast :). We are complex creations, that is just the way it is. There is room for explanation and trying to give meaning. In jr high chool I had creative writing and debate. I wish I would have paid attention and learned something but I didn't. I've kind of had to learn to do them later in life but I still don't know how to do them. I don't debate because I don't know how (time and energy as well). People that are trained in debate chew you up. In writing you should know how to write and punctuate. I don't to my shame but I like to do it so I do it best I can and apologize when I make a mess.
So there is room for the intellectual mind, mental knowledge. But you cannot rely on all intellectualism to bring what it is you know in spirit. I may understand spirit but in debate a intellectual in that area can overwhelm you. Mostly because they haven't came to understand spirit yet and your talking spirit and they come from a different place. That's why I say there is nothing wrong with that kind of training but most does not come from spirit. In time though it can be a tool for the Lord just like any other tool because they can have both, intellectual mind and Spirit revelation. The well trained mind has a even flow of Spirit taught knowledge. Co-laborers remember, whatever you are (back ground education work life culture) it all comes flowing out in a positive way for the furtherance of the Gospel and life expression.
The scriptures call it 'Christ in you the hope of glory," by the unique person you are, your creation. The two have become one in birth at birth, and now in time and time again, one in soul understanding called expression. Bless you.
