If you look closely, I’m in this picture.

The tournament field has been reduced from 64 to 16.

#12 national seed Kentucky won the region they hosted in Lexington (defeating Ball State on Friday, losing to Indiana on Saturday, defeating West Virginia and Indiana on Sunday, and defeating Indiana again on Monday) and will play in the super regional in Baton Rouge against #5 national seed Louisiana State this weekend. (I won’t be in attendance in Baton Rouge.)

Kentucky is 2 wins away from making it to the college World Series. (2 losses away from being eliminated from the tournament.)

LSU will be heavily favored.

P.S.

For those interested, the super regional matchups.

Some of you here may have heard of New Zealand, (Aotearoa), even though you may have no idea where it is. Some of you may even know a little about Rugby, but do you know why NZ is so Rugby conscious?

You may not know that the first NZ rugby team to wear the black jersey with the silver fern (now the standard uniform) was in 1898. They played 104 games on a 14 month tour of Britain and Australia. They were called the Natives, (other political incorrect today) and were made up mostly of Maori. At a time when the indigenous people of other nations were oppressed, marginalized, or even wiped out, here in Aotearoa, they were representing the new nation in international sport. (There no other country on earth where the indigenous and the Europeans are so integrated.) The black jersey and silver fern itself was the idea of the captain, Tamati Ellison, and was based on an old Maori proverb that reflected the mana of the jersey and how precious it is to each new bearer. A proud heritage.
