I read a book a long time ago called, "Seth Speaks", about a couple who daveled with an ouija board regularly. Within weeks, they started communicating with a demon, who appeared friendly and not harmful. Then it began to possess the woman temporily. It's called channeling. Her facial expressions, voice and personality completely changed. The woman went into a trance, putting her own consciousness to sleep and inviting this spirit to take over. The couple was deceived into believing that since the spirt seemed harmless, it gave them further curiosity to pursue their new found friend. They asked Seth many questions about life and spirituality. What I can remember is that the answers were filled with lies and deceptions, but nothing too deep, just subtle and superficial things. I wasn't a Christian at the time and so I must admit, because I had no Biblical knowledge of demons, I was unaware of how dangerous and evil Seth was to this woman. Seth did not hurt her or cause her to physically hurt others. No, Seth's motive was more to send a message to all, that this game is harmless, encouraging others to play, conjuring them others to open the door to the harmles spirit realm, setting a trap, manipulating it's host to write the book.
It was a learning experience, a warning for anyone who thinks it was harmless.

What else came to mind was crystal ball gazing, which also opens the door to channeling spirits. Joseph Smith did this.
