Good for you Ferris, praise God

What are some of the ways you handle temptation if it does ever come up?

Thank you, anyone who would like to comment may and share anything you would like including scripture that may help you as you walk with God in faith and love.

My temptation is to be more like Mary and less like Martha every day.
And the best way I find to handle that, is to take a nap and think on it.

I'm poking fun, but seriously, it's an effort to do the housework and the shopping.
Most of it I admit is laziness and unwillingness to suffer the aches and cramps that come from walking.
And my dad handles this problem much better than me. All he has to do is call and say I'm coming to visit.
That usually gets the motivation engines running.

:D
Hugs

Even the Bible admits that there is “ pleasure” in Sin.....Who doesn’t want “ pleasure? I think we sin because we think we can do it “ and get away with it”......some people attain wisdom quicker than others and some never attain it at all—— Wisdom shows that Nobody in this lifetime “ gets away” with Anything.....If you give in to Sin—- YOU will be the one that pays the price.... Just about all sin can be traced back to Ignorance —- the ignorance that God’s Ways are ALWAYS better and their are built-in rewards for those that refuse to give in to the temptations in their lives.....We need to pray for Wisdom.....attain “ that” and most temptations will take care of themselves

I'm no spiritual giant. As God graciously draws me more and more into the joy and peace of the Holy Spirit, usually in times of despair and trouble, the more I want that over and above the pleasures of sin. It's a journey, and certainly not one I can boast in walking. God is the one making it happen, not me.
It's not relevant to the thread, but every time I see your Avatar, I can't help but see the character Matthew Broderick played in one of my favorite films "LadyHawke". He played a young Christian vagabond that lived by petty larceny in midievil Europe and was used by God to help lift a curse placed upon two lovers by a lecherous, jealous, and murderous religious authority. Love conquered hypocrisy. It was a truly epic fantasy starring three of my favorite actors.

It tends to color my perception of you, but I should probably watch the Ferris Bueller film at least once. That's a problem with avatars though, isn't it?

You're not wrong but pleasure isn't sin, though sin is frequently pleasurable. God created us to experience pleasure, but restricted our pleasures through the law and for our own good.

My favorite film about the Lord was produced for television, took liberties with scripture, presented some Catholic imagery, but portrayed Jesus as a man who took joy in the simple pleasures of life. I appreciated it more than those depictions of Him as dour or extremely reserved, because scripture tells us that Jesus was tempted in all the ways we are, but remained without sin, fully God, but fully man.

If heaven is filled with pious people playing harps and singing Gregorian chants, I think I'd prefer an eternity on Earth.

We reap what we sow, there is no escape from that truth.

I'll have to scope that film out.

And I only recommend you watch the family friendly version of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Virtually all of my movie experience is from family friendly versions on local television from the good ol' days, and so I remembered Ferris Bueller as a family friendly kind of movie when I picked my name/avatar. But I recently started watching it on Pluto TV and was shocked at the language, lol.

Hello and thank you for all of your participation and sharing here with each other.

Temptations come and go which form with in our minds. Then from our mind/will/emotion of being on a certain activity, our body will confirmed the assertive actions that formulated in the (soul) mind/will/emotion.

There have been good insights on how to be responsible and recognizes it is coming from ones self then decide what to do with that temptation when it comes about, and it can be a struggle.

Some might advise the best thing to do again, is recognize it first, then make it known, the make your decision. It seems one can decide to react by the spirit, and pray and ask God. React by the flesh, and just do the action.

Some might advise reading your Bible, and captivate your thoughts and focus then toward heavenly.

Well, if it is I'm sure it will be the most sincere, heartfelt worship possible.
Maybe, but I was in a service at a local Baptist church, the place where I was baptized as an adult, and the singing was so divine, that the man next to me was weeping and we felt a shaking like a vibration that had no source in the structure. It was on the anniversary of Pentecost.

These days I think you'd be very hard pressed to find a congregation that praises and worships in a way that solicits the manifestation of the Spirit. The experience seems to be lost to the church.
