Jeremiah 21:9 Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine or plague. But whoever goes out and surrenders to the Babylonians who are besieging you will live; they will escape with their lives.

Are we willing to endure treason for God?

Jeremiah preached treason against Israel. He asked her people to surrender to her enemies in times of wars. If ever America went to wars with another country, and God told you to ask the people in America to surrender to that country, are you willing to do that? If you are willing to do that, you will be consider a traitor to your own country. You will be committing the worst of crime in your country, treason.

Yet, that is what Jeremiah did. He committed treason against his own country, for the sake of the Lord. He really loves God by his actions and not his words.

What about you? Are you willing to commit treason for the Lord?

I get the point in the op, but surrender is not treason I don't think. Neither is disobeying, for that matter. Treason implies fealty to another king/country?
A good point. Otherwise, many of our prisoners of war who were captured, would have to be tried for treason when they finally came home.
Just one more incidence of how confused many of us get with the words of the English language.

I also get the point here, but if we recall Rehab helping the spies of Israel in Jericho, did she not commit treason against her nation and was then found pleasing to God? In the Book of Joshua she committed treason but in the Book of Hebrews she was commended for her faith. Can we do that? Most of us alone cannot, but if we are faithful to God and He asks it of us, will He also make it possible for us to do it?

In the here and now; Trump has committed treason.

In law, treason is the crime that covers some of the more extreme acts against one's nation or sovereign.[1] Historically, treason also covered the murder of specific social superiors, such as the murder of a husband by his wife or that of a master by his servant. Treason against the king was known as high treason and treason against a lesser superior was petty treason. A person who commits treason is known in law as a traitor.

In English law, high treason was punishable by being hanged, drawn and quartered (men) or burnt at the stake (women), although beheading could be substituted by royal command (usually for royalty and nobility).

I think it is wise for Christians not to come under oath to the State. Because following Jesus often runs against the grain of domestic and foreign policy. Also not being unequally yoked with unbelievers is a specific command that applies to more than marriage. Military, law enforcement, all require submitting to unbelievers.

Yes, Rehab is a good example. If I knew the command truly came from God, of course I would do it in a heart beat.
His grace is sufficient for all things, this would be no different IMO...sure falls under the umbrella of "all things"...He is a way maker :)

I agree with both of you. And for future reference it's Rahab. I clicked on this thread and it sent me straight to Nancy's post, and I saw "Rehab" and thought we were talking about drug addiction or something.

P.S. I fail to see any connection between rehab and treason.

Double P.S.: I was just waking up, and seeing that sort of thing before your eyes are fully open can present problems, LoL.

And Rahab actually is a genuine example of treason.

This hypothetical is extremely unlikely. America is NOT a theocracy, so God would not issue any such instructions. Also surrender is not necessarily treason, unless you start working on behalf of your enemy.

When we turn to Jeremiah, we need to understand that (a) it is God who sent the Babylonians against His own people to punish them and (b) God still offered mercy to some by asking them to surrender to their enemies. As we know, Babylon took Judah captive and they remain captive for 70 years. Had they not surrendered they would all have been slaughtered.

Ahaha...yes, I imagine it would...funny, because I am usually quite a stickler for spelling words correctly! Too much on the gray matter? :)

Well I read both John's and your post's and never noticed the "e"..so that just shows how unobservant I am. I guess I just knew what it was talking about and gave my "like".

And who on earth can wake up in the morning and straight way be that sharp!! ( @Hidden In Him :D)
I am bleary at night, and I am bleary in the first hour of the day. For sure not sharp of mind. LOL
