I just found something fascinating on YouTube, it is a documentary on the battle for Jerusalem and the destruction of the 2nd temple, Jesus spoke of this and prophesied during his ministry on the earth-

“And Jesus went out from the temple, and was going on his way; and his disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple. But he answered and said unto them, ‘You see all of these things, do you not? Truly I say unto you, there shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down’” (Matthew 24:1-2)

In this video the Roman general Titus and 60 thousand Roman troops lays siege to Jerusalem in the year 70 AD and eventually sacked the city and burns down the 2nd temple, thus fulfilling the words spoken by Jesus! This is an awesome history lesson and you can see the words of Christ come to pass, you might want to take a look at it, only 15 minutes! I would highly recommend watching the video below!

In around ad 300, Julian the apostate allowed the Jews to rebuild the temple, but God put a stop to it with fires and earthquakes, and striking workers with lightning. Recorded by historian Sozomon from his book The Ecclesiastical History (Book V)

"The City's fall contributed to the growing separation between
early Christianity and Judaism."

Dan 9:
“And after the sixty-two weeks
Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;
And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.

The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

Luke 21: 20 “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. 21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. 22 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. 23 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. 24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

Prophecy fuflilled indeed.

I’m grateful that it was only the Jerusalem temple that needed to be destroyed in fulfillment of prophecy. Praise Yahavah. I believe the words of Yeshua were singular in their intent, not dual‑layered or repeatedly unfolding as some claim. His prophecy was precise, and He affirmed that “all these things” would come upon that generation (Matthew 24:34).

The destruction of the Temple stands as the historical confirmation of His faithfulness to His word. As Scripture says, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35). Yeshua spoke with authority, and what He declared came to pass exactly as He said.

the whole city was destroyed.

Josephus wrote in his writtings that after he went there after the siege, the city was so thoroughly destroyed that they only things left standing was the fortress (Antonia) People who had never visited before would not even be able to tell a city was actually there.

Here something interesting related to:
The devastation that followed—from the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD to the further desolation of Judea through 135–146 AD during the Bar Kokhba revolt—demonstrates the complete judgment Yeshua foretold. The land itself became a testimony to His words, echoing the warnings of the prophets: “Your house is left unto you desolate” (Matthew 23:38).

Through all of this, His faithfulness stands. As He said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35). His prophecy was fulfilled precisely, once, and within the timeframe He specified.

Jerusalem has Been destroyed, rebuilt, fought over, for control for centuries.

Governing kings, hopeful kings, Hebrews, Jews, Muslims, Christians have all had their interest in JERUSALEM….for Political AND Religious Reasonings.

To this Day, the Disputes continue.

John 2:
[19] Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

Jesus was Not speaking of a Stone and Mortar man made Temple…
RATHER…
Jesus was speaking of the Temple of God, the Prepared Body of Jesus, a new covenant Lambs blood offering For ALL (“willing”)men, to freely choose and receive and the 3rd day Rising up of Jesus’ glorified Body…

Glory to God,

Your opening statement is true and it was all caused by the disobedience of the Hebrew people.

Yes, in that passage Jesus was clearly speaking about His body as the true Temple. John makes that explicit: “He spoke of the temple of His body” (John 2:21).

But in the broader context of His ministry, Jesus also spoke very directly about the destruction of the physical Temple they were standing in. In Matthew 22–24, Mark 13, and Luke 13 & 21, He warned His disciples about the judgment coming upon Jerusalem and the end of the age they were living in.

He told them plainly:

  • “There shall not be left here one stone upon another” (Matthew 24:2)
  • “All these things shall come upon this generation” (Matthew 23:36)
  • “This generation shall not pass away until all these things take place” (Matthew 24:34)
Jesus always spoke directly to His apostles about the events they would witness. His words were straightforward, because He was preparing them for the close of the Mosaic age, which culminated in the destruction of the Temple in AD 70—exactly as He said.
