I’ve observed that evil always begins with deception.

A lie is not merely something that is not true; People can be mistaken in search of the truth. It’s knowing what is true but withholding or adding to advance an agenda. Here, is where metaphysics and politics are intertwined. (And when I write ‘politics,’ I’m not talking only government but relationships, manipulation). Your reference to Satan in the Garden follows this pattern.

Journalists say they ‘EDIT’ for brevity. Here, us online Bible scholars know the familiar refrain, CONTEXT IS KING. For brevity sake, we must take Bible verses out of their 66 book context. Fidelity. The question is, is the excerpt faithfully presented? Did Jesus show his misogyny by calling a woman a dog? Did Jesus show his sadistic nature by telling us to resort to cannibalism and gouging out our eye or cutting off our own hand? Did Abraham intend to murder his son?

It’s one thing to not know the answer to these questions. Perhaps us Christians are too willing to assert that of unbelievers. Otherwise, we have to contend with sin, a deceptive heart.

I once had this experience with a Democrat talking about Global Warming. He repeated something that was not technically accurate. Knowing he didn’t have a technical background, I gave him the benefit of the doubt of not knowing. When I clarified the point, his reaction sent shivers down my spine. He smiled an evil smile. He knew the truth but choose to speak deceptively and I caught him doing it.

Yes, and I should think that it is the responsibility of every Christian who is aware of such tactics, to carry that knowledge into the Church, that we might especially be aware of it going on among those who call themselves Christians--even or especially those professing to be knowledgeable or of authority.

The "context" rule you mentioned, is nothing short of evil! Did the apostles or even Jesus hesitate to pluck even a fragment of a former context out of the scriptures to show a noted fulfillment--like David's sufferings in the Psalms being applicably prophetic of Jesus' suffering? Or Paul, after having to repeat himself, plucking "by the mouth of two or three every word shall be established" for his own use--seemingly having nothing to do with the Law from which he plucked it? I have said it before-- Those examples show the "context" rule to be completely wrong--where it is more likely that the original context was arranged by God precisely for the purpose of it being confirmation of something that would only come later in the fullness of time. Meaning: David suffered, specifically that he should be compelled to write of it, to confirm that Jesus was the Christ. Meaning that the apostles did not use David and his lesser context--but God did...and they only saw it manifest in the greater context of Christ, for which they were also compelled to write. None of which would be allowed today without allegations of heresy. Just shameful--and it goes on regularly right here on the forum, unfortunately.
