yes it was very friendly and people kept say 'Oh we've heard about you.' Seems they had been praying for me at the Wednesday bible study. It was lovely.

I'm just going to check out one of the sermons...listening to Gordon hall on the Jonah sermons. I like how he calls a spade a spade. You are definitely very blessed to find a great group of believers in Christ. Bless you and yours. Do you have a ride? :)

Gordon Hall seems like a really nice man. He arranged for his wife to pick me up and another couple brought me home. They are starting Baptism classes as there are about five or six new people waiting to be Baptised. I sort of glad really that they go through classes to make sure they know what they are doing and why they are doing it.I'm just going to check out one of the sermons...listening to Gordon hall on the Jonah sermons. I had to go through similar baptism classes before I was baptized back in the day....:) Glad you got a ride and back
@Angelina Good for the person who wants to be baptized to have a proper knowledge beforehand from Scripture of what s/he is doing, and how the doctrine fits the profession of faith, right?

The only one I know of is the HQ in Redding where Bill Johnson is. I am sorry I have nothing negative to report. Bill Johnson visited a church near us and the son of a friend went to a meeting with a friend of his who had only one hand. When he came home he had two hands.
Right. I have read their Statement of Faith and find it perfectly biblical. It is puzzling that they would call themselves "Bethel Church" unless they were in existence long before the one which became notorious. In which case they should stick to their name.

The Bethel church I went to was quite traditional, no-fuss church with friendly people.
You could always ask if they're linked to the Bethel group that has the bad reputation.

Or,given the scandal if they are affiliated with the other Bethel church they could have deleted it.
Would you want to be affiliated with a church that's linked to the scandalous Bethel?

I only went once and I liked it. There were no egos on show and the worship was simply a guitar and oldish songs I knew. And the people were lovely.
Hi. I'm very late to this coversation... probably everyone has moved on, but I'm Gordon, the pastor at Bethel in Bolton.
Just to say, we have nothing to do with Bethel Church in California. It's a long story, but after the Welsh Revival in 1904, the next generation of Christians sent out the Jeffrey Brothers, who preached and set up churches across the country, which were all called Bethel, with the group of churches known as the Bethel movement. I think there were approximately 37 churches set up at the time. This was in the 1930's.
Bethel, simply means house of God.
So we're coming up to 100 years old as a church and it's been a privilige to pastor God's people there for the past 5 years.

Good afternoon Pastor @Gordonhall, Welcome to the Christianity Board. I came from an Elim Church that had its history associated with the Welsh Revival and miners coming into my area, which sparked a revival here in 1905.
I believe there are always going to be good and bad that occur when the Spirit of God moves over a church or people. The Lord gave me the verse Luke 17:37 as I was contemplating your post. I think that we cannot throw the baby out with the bathwater. I met a lady from Bethel Church from California almost a year ago who spoke at one of our AGLOW meetings. She was awesome and inspiring and has set my personal trajectory on a path, in pursuit after God, that can only be described as divine.

Hi Gordon, nice to see you here. When I made the OP I knew nothing about your Bethel church but was considering giving it a try. I don't know if you remember but I contacted you and then you offered to take me and it was lovely - nothing like the other posters had said. Since my visit at your church I didn't come again because I couldn't hear anything but I enjoyed joining in with the worship. And it was lovely to see so many young people taking part.
I think I told you that I had been a member of Claremont Church and my son was able to take me for a while and sadly my husband died last year and I haven't really been anywhere recently but my heart is still with Jesus.
