For me…it’s the big picture…

Knowing what God purposed for mankind in the beginning, and knowing how we lost that, and how he sent his son to “deliver us from evil”, (Lord’s Prayer) one Scripture comes to mind to answer them all…

1John 5:19…”the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one”.
So we know why those things happen.

In that case, Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us how to handle all of those situations….
”Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.”

So using the principles outlined in God’s word, if we handle each situation with prayer and follow God’s direction, we will know what to do. I could fill a page with Scripture that deals with all of those situations, but understanding why they happen and who is running this show, helps us to see the temporary nature of the distressing things that happen to us. God knows what we are dealing with, and will strengthen his faithful ones to cope with any distressing situation. (Phil 4:12-13)

He is allowing all of this for a reason that many fail to comprehend. We are all Job…..so our actions and resolute faith answer the devil’s slander against our Sovereign Lord. (Prov 27:11) The end justifies the means….and gives us hope of a rescue.

The devil hijacked the human race and held them to ransom…..that ransom was paid, and we are now awaiting the rescue team that is coming to take us “home”.

Compared to the eternity that God has promised to his faithful ones, even our short difficult lifetime is a mere blip on the radar by comparison.

Certainly. Here are SP-grounded and scripturally faithful responses to each situation, including direct quotations or references.

1) You just lost your job unexpectedly.

Habakkuk 3:17–18
“Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines… yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.”

Even when provision disappears, rejoicing in God is an act of prophetic faith—declaring that God is still present and active, even when the outer blessings are removed.

2) You got a bad diagnosis from your doctor.

2 Corinthians 4:16–17
“Though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction… worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”

SP sees affliction not as punishment, but as refinement for glory. Christ was also made perfect through suffering (Heb 2:10).

3) Someone in your family was assaulted.

Romans 12:19
“Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
Psalm 147:3
“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

Justice belongs to God, but healing and protection are His immediate concern. The Word flows to those crushed, and SP holds that God enters suffering before He judges it.

4) There are allegations being leveled against your Pastor.

1 Timothy 5:19
“Do not admit a charge against an elder except on the evidence of two or three witnesses.”
James 3:1
“Let not many of you become teachers… for we shall receive a stricter judgment.”

SP principle: God protects both the accused and the truth—requiring righteous judgment, not assumption. Christ was falsely accused; all accusation must be measured carefully and justly.

5) Your child is in trouble at school. You need to meet with the principal.

Proverbs 15:1
“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
Isaiah 54:13
“All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.”

Go in truth and peace. SP sees every child’s correction as part of the bridal preparation—training in holiness, not condemnation.

6) A best friend just betrayed a confidence.

Psalm 55:12–14
“It was not an enemy… but it was you, a man my equal, my companion… we used to take sweet counsel together…”
Luke 22:48
“Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

SP shows that every betrayal is a shadow of Christ’s own betrayal. But He overcame it by committing Himself to the Father. So must we.

7) While at a playground, you suddenly realize your child/grandchild is missing.

Luke 2:48–49
“Son, why have You treated us this way? Behold, Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You.”
Psalm 91:11
“For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”

Even Mary lost sight of Jesus for a time. SP shows that anxiety over the lost is part of God’s own heart—and the search is always toward restoration, not despair.

Handle it the way the sons of Israel handled it when Shechem raped Dinah: Find the culprit, circumcise him and every male in his family, and while their d***s are hurting, slaughter every man jack in the whole damn family and steal their stuff.

25 Three days later, while all of them were still in pain, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, took their swords and attacked the unsuspecting city, killing every male. 26 They put Hamor and his son Shechem to the sword and took Dinah from Shechem’s house and left. 27 The sons of Jacob came upon the dead bodies and looted the city where their sister had been defiled. 28 They seized their flocks and herds and donkeys and everything else of theirs in the city and out in the fields. 29 They carried off all their wealth and all their women and children, taking as plunder everything in the houses. (Genesis 34)

And you can honestly say, "That's Biblical".

Reminded me of this one.

Title: Burn Your Village
Track Time: 02:43

VS 1
We don't see eye-to-eye - but that's okay
Let's sit and talk it out - right here today
Gather your people - and have your say
We'll find a compromise - come what may
And if diplomatic efforts - don't make the grade
In my heart I know that - we'll find a way...

CHORUS
Gonna burn your village and dance in the glow
Stow the loot in wagons right before we go
Put your shrunken heads on a bamboo pole
So you can hang around and watch the show
(REPEAT)

VS 2
We've planned a party - in your honor
If you attend - you'll be a goner
RSVP - your sons and daughters
Invite the grand folks - Moms and Fathers
No one missing - for the slaughter
Don't need to bring a thing - we got 'er

CHORUS/END

It might be biblical....but certainly not something that was carried out by God’s command.

Jacob’s response when he learned of it showed that he was ashamed of their actions....

Gen 34:30-31...
“At this Jacob said to Simʹe·on and to Leʹvi: “You have brought great trouble on me in making me a stench to the inhabitants of the land, to the Caʹnaan·ites and the Perʹiz·zites. I am few in number, and they will certainly gather together to attack me and I will be annihilated, I and my house.” 31  But they said: “Should anyone treat our sister like a prostitute?”

It was an an extreme response to the situation, but a younger sister with so many big brothers taking matters into their own hands with these foreigners, didn’t mean that what they did was right, or that their actions were sanctioned by God in any way.

I can basically sum up all those situations with one of Solomon’s proverbs....it’s indelibly etched into my mind....a “go to” in times of distress....

Prov 35-6...
“Trust in Jehovah with all your heart,
And do not rely on your own understanding.
In all your ways take notice of him,
And he will make your paths straight.
Do not become wise in your own eyes.

Fear Jehovah and turn away from bad.”

The principle of that Scripture can be applied to all of those situations. Don’t act out of human emotions, but trust in God to give you, not a miracle, but the strength and his wisdom to cope with what has happened.

Another Proverb that is also helpful in understanding why bad things often happen to good people, is.....
Prov 9:11....

“I have seen something further under the sun, that the swift do not always win the race, nor do the mighty win the battle, nor do the wise always have the food, nor do the intelligent always have the riches, nor do those with knowledge always have success, because time and unexpected events overtake them all.”

It is good to keep the right perspective so, no matter what difficulty we are facing....self control is a fruit of God’s spirit, and he can help us in any and all situations, if we trust in him, and do not react the wrong way.

In the context of a "bible knowledge for life" thread, this verse applies to the life-situation, "We've just committed mass murder, breaking-and-entering, kidnapping, and theft. What will the neighbors think?"
