In genesis, the wicked and sinful are drowned in a massive flood.

The wicked and sinful are wiped out in sodom and gamorra. God punishes the son, for the sins of the father, up to the 7th generation in the old testament. Israelites exterminate many tribes of sinful idol worshipers.

In the bible, God shows us the end result of campaigns of genocide waged against forces of evil in the world. The precedent is identical to nazi germany being defeated in World War II. Evil simply returns in the hearts and minds of whoever chooses to embrace it. Evil can't be fought as a tangible thing, being that it is an idea and life choice.

There may be a lesson to be learned here: evil can neither be reduced nor eliminated through violence.

If this is accurate, how might it someday be defeated?

If there were a defeating evil in 21 easy steps for dummies book, written on the topic, what would it say.

Im reminded of Romans 12:21
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Only light can drive out darkness. But more specifically, Jesus has promised to come back and rule with a rod of iron. In the day of the Lord, evil will be greatly punished. God will right every wrong. He judges justly.

Hi Space Karen,
The first passages that come to mind I have listed below...yes, we do not fight against flesh and blood, "but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Eph. 6:12

Revelation 5:1-5
1 "Then I saw a scroll in the right hand of the One seated on the throne. It had writing on both sides and was sealed with seven seals. 2And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or look inside it. 4 And I began to weep bitterly, because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or look inside it. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “
Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

Jesus told us how to defeat evil. Turn the other cheek. The Israelites were occupied many times by brutal pagan oppressors and got freed each time up until the Messiah. (It was their attempted uprising that got their kingdom destroyed).

The best way to deal with an evil person is unlimited love and patience. If they are trying to be evil to you while you are being nice to them, then eventually they'll realize "hey, I am being kind of a rotten person". In this life or the next.

Good point, it's difficult to sin when filled with the Holy Spirit. How do we get filled with the Holy Spirit:

1. Proclaiming the Gospel
2. Attending church services
3. Humble Prayer
4. Reading the scriptures
5. Serving the less fortunate and others in love

There are passages that say to depart from evil (Job 28:28 and Psalm 34:14) and the face of the lord is against them that do evil (Psalm 34:16 and 1 Peter 3:12). Evil pursues sinners (Proverbs 13:21). Everyone is a sinner and no one does good (the scriptures for these escape me).

Man's goings are of the lord, men have a hard time understanding their own way (Proverbs 24:20). The steps of a good man are ordered by the lord (Psalm 37:23). We are nothing without God. We need Jesus and his holy spirit.

There's more scriptures than the ones I'm pointing out. We can do good, and we are commanded to. But us being good is not by our own merit.
