Great verse on point! Romans 13:4
4 for it is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a servant of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.
According to these pacifists the reason to bear a sword is to collect dust or some metaphorical or ceremonial use, like when a man is knighted and the flat of the sword is brought to touch each shoulder.
That’s the same Paul who wrote, “We [followers of Jesus] do not use the weapons of the world.”
Listen to Paul.
It’s the government, not the followers of Jesus, who are authorized by God to bear the sword.

The government of any nation or kingdom is responsible for protecting its people. The government in Paul’s day was headed by Nero, not a follower of Jesus.

The problem isn’t that the government defended its people. The problem is that the people were not acting in accordance with Paul’s instruction.
